I have a new Sony KDL70R550A HDTV on the way, replacing an old KDSR70XBR2. I have quite a few devices connected to the old set, and want to be able to connect them as best I can to the new. I will list them below, and how they are currently connected to the old XBR2. The problem I have is that the new set has two rear and two side HDMI connections and only one component connection on the back.

Here is what and how I have equipment currently connected to the old set:

[*]DirecTV HR22100 DVR-component to TV, HDMI to Denon AVR3808CI
[*]

[*]PS3-HDMI to Denon AVR3808CI
[*]

[*]Oppo BDP83-HDMI to Denon AVR3808CI
[*]

[*]TiVo Premiere-component to TV, HDMI to Denon AVR3808CI
[*]

[*]Denon AVR3808CI-HDMI to TV
[*]
[/list]
(I also have the Logitech Harmony 900 Universal Remote, which I know will have to be reprogrammed based on new connection settings for the new TV.)

What I want to accomplish is to be able to utilize the 3D capability of the PS3 to the new TV. (I do not think my Denon AVR can pass that through.)
I also would like to connect the DirecTV DVR straight to the TV for the best picture, and maintain the sound through the Denon AVR as best I can.
I also pull my MP3 files from my PC, using the TiVo, and do not want to give up the ability to hear them through the surround system.

I can only maintain one component connection to the new TV, where I currently have two component connections to the old TV. (I would also prefer not to use the side HDMI connections on the new TV,with the wires sticking out the side.)

[I am aware that I could upgrade my DirecTV package to have the Genie DVR, and utilize the RVU function of the new TV, and not have to use a box or connections there, at all. I would relaly rather not jump on that new technology yet, and it might cost me more than my current package.]

I would like to maintain the ability to have sound from all components through the AVR; but, I also want the best connectivity and picture quality from the new TV.
We currently watch regular TV on the TiVo or DirecTV DVR, straight to the TV on component most of the time, and sometimes use them with the surround system. We only use the Oppo and PS3 through the sound system.

I do not read good things about splitters for HDMI, and I am not sure how an HDMI switch can help.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why not get some 90 degree HDMI plugs so your side HDMI aren't sticking out the side? You might check to see if your 3808 has HDMI pass-through in standby.Outside the 3D on your PS3, I don't understand the double up on anything else.

I did not even think about 90 degree HDMI plugs. Thanks.
I cannot find anything about pass-through on the 3808. On Denon's support page, they have an HDMI doc. that indicates "repeater" versus "switcher". (Since it can only handle HDMI ver. 1.3a, I assume I cannot run the PS3 through it for 3D, since 3D needs 1.4, right?)
If I run the PS3 straight HDMI to the TV to get 3D, how could I keep lossless audio from the PS3?
We doubled-up because we like to watch basic TV using component-1080i, without the AVR.

Easy way to find out about HDMI pass through...Set the AVR for the Directv input...and turn the AVR off. My Onkyo 707 has it...and it isn't a feature listed for it either.Find that out first. As for lossless and 3D at the same time...not with that AVR. But you could pick up a twin HDMI 3D BD player.

No HDMI pass through. When AVR is off, no video signal on TV from any original source.
I may just wait and see if I get lucky and the 3D from the PS3 miraculously makes it through this AVR. I won't die without 3D. (The same TV model without 3D was only $5 less.)
I am now leaning towards using HDMI for everything. I think I can even program the individual inputs to actually output sound on the TV, instead of the AVR. I guess I was just trying to maintain the current setup, and not turn on the AVR for standard TV viewing.
