IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD-DUAL-FORMAT BLU-RAY AND DVD EDITION
Stanley Kramer followed his Oscar-winning Judgment at Nuremberg with this sobering investigation of American greed. Ah, who are we kidding? It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, about a group of strangers fighting tooth and nail over buried treasure, is the most grandly harebrained movie ever made, a pileup of slapstick and borscht-belt-y one-liners performed by a nonpareil cast, including Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, Jonathan Winters, and a boatload of other playing-to-the-rafters comedy legends. For sheer scale of silliness, Kramer’s wildly uncharacteristic film is unlike any other, an exhilarating epic of tomfoolery.

I will be restructuring the above post as back cover art becomes available.

I just wanted to say that I have been aware of how much was being put back
into this film for a bit of time now.

I think Robert Harris deserves the final word on what has and has not been
restored from the laserdisc. However, if I am correct, everything that was on
that laserdisc will be on this Blu-ray sans one small insignificant sequence.

As the press release states, there is additional material we have not seen before.

This is the best part "New high-definition digital transfer of a 197-minute extended version of the film, reconstructed and restored by Robert A. Harris using visual and audio material from the longer original road-show version—including some scenes that have been returned to the film here for the first time—with 5.1 surround Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray"Also 5 discs for $39.99. They are doing this right. It will take days to go through the extras. Now, for an Old Fashioned.

This looks simply AWESOME!! Well worth the short wait. These days I buy pretty much all of my Criterions during the various 50% off sales, but this one may be a Day One purchase.

What concerns me a bit is the listing on Critereon's page for this on the aspect ratio. It is listed as 2:35:1. is the the intended AR for this film in the general release? or should it be 2:76:1 as is already released on the current MGM disc? Also if this is the case, what will be the AR of the 197 min. version?
