It is always so exciting when another golden oldie 3D title makes it to home video. I couldn't be more anticipatory.

My order is in! Let's hope this one sells well and encourages some more Columbia vintage 3D to come out of the vaults.

It's vintage.
(And chronologically first for Columbia, so TT may be taking them in order, if they plan to go on to others.)

It's actually a better movie than it's reputation suggests, but like many a 3D movie of the 50s, it's become kinda forgotten over the years except for by 3D buffs. Certainly it's better than The Nebraskan or Flight to Tangier. It has some amusing dialogue, great gimmick shots, and it's short enough to not overstay it's welcome. It's also one of those 3D movies that really needs to be seen in 3D to be fully appreciated. But that's okay, since with the exception of a few crap conversions over the past few years, you can say that about nearly any 3D movie. After all, watching a 3D movie in 2D is like watching a Scope movie in pan and scan IMHO.

Yes, I thought it was odd when Criterion released Flesh for Frankenstein on DVD in 2D. I would never watch that movie unless it was in 3D. I saw it in 3D at a movie theatre when its title was Andy Warhol's Frankenstein and was rated X. Very strange movie but great 3D.

I also saw Flesh for Fankenstein in Spacevision at the cinema and it was very impressive. It's meant to be a spoof but the humour is a bit hit and miss. Also one is never sure whether or not the awful acting is deliberate.
The person introducing the movie said it was financed by the Mafia and Robert Bernier (creator of Spacevision) was fired for taking too long to set up and shoot scenes. He also warned us to look out for the bats . . . .

My guess is that, if Criterion revisits this for Blu-ray, they will include the 3-D version. They've already done PINA that way.

I spoke with Paul Morrissey, owner of the film.

He does not have a 3-D master and did not want to pay to create one.

In fact, he asked if we would do the desperately needed shot-by-shot stereoscopic alignment for free!

We declined his offer.

I noticed Man in the Dark is number 2 in the top weekly sales for Twilight Time (Khartoum is number 1). I'm guessing this is pretty promising. :)

That it'll sell out- I preordered mine. I have Andy Warhol's Frankenstein on field-sequential VHS, which looks pretty good but won't work on my HDTV. Hopefully a 3D Blu-Ray of that will come out eventually.

The photography on Frankenstein is terrible and would require extensive correction work before any Blu-ray release.
If they were to put it out "as is" there would be an incredible amount of complaints with crosstalk/ghosting.
