This was the first Pixar film I didn't see in the theater.  Cars 2 was one too many trips to the Cars world and now this is just piling on.

"Planes" wasn't from Pixar. It was from Walt Disney Pictures.

It's not a Pixar movie (Disney made it) so your streak remains intact.

EDIT: Beat to the punch. :)

In fact, Planes was originally intended for home video release and not theatrical, but Disney changed its mind and did a theatrical release. It has to be the least heralded and discussed Disney animated feature in the last decade. I don't know anyone who went to see it.

I stand, or rather I'm sitting, corrected.  It sure seemed like another Pixar Cars movie from the trailers, and as such held no interest for me.  Wasn't the trailer tagline "From the world above Cars"?

Yeah, it is a Cars 'spinoff' and exists in that world. It's just that Disney made the movie with no input from Pixar.

The film was decent, although I'm not sure it's worth the price of a Blu.  My kid really enjoyed it, which is the most important thing so I'll probably pick this up via Amazon Instant so that he can watch it.

I got the European 3D version and the 2D disc also includes a new Mickey Mouse short film "Croissant de Triomphe". I believe this is missing from the US set?

Yes, indeed it is! My review of the set would surely have mentioned it if it had been included. Was this short shown with Planes in theaters?

Since we're talking about short films and "World of Cars"....

Anybody has the "Mater's Tall Tales" Blu-ray? I have the European release and "Storyreels" (extras) are only included for three episodes. I believe you can watch every episode with "Storyreels" in the US release?
