Lately my friends and I have been on a board game kick. We've been playing a ton of Talisman mainly, but we have play MLP Monopoly, Chess, Ultra Cards (home made game), and Axis and Allies. What games have you been playing? Has anyone played Arkham Horror before?

I've never heard of Junta before. What sort of board game is it? I'm always looking for new games to try.

We live in a town where there's a local neato privately-owned toy store that stocks independent-label games, and if you know anyone in town, you've probably been introduced to Apples to Apples long before it went mainstream. :D
Personal Preference was also a major guest game with my folks, but me, I kept looking for enough people to play Clue!

(And ever since I was a kid, I'd hada dream of linking up with the professional Monopoly-tournament community, but have no idea where qualifying games are being played.)

Heh, I've played Junta a few times, still have my copy somewhere.

Basically it simulates a "banana republic", you control a faction trying to take over the country.

I used to play a number of wargames, mostly from Avalon Hill. Hardly do nowadays, though.

Junta is a hoot. I have the new Arkham Horror game, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. I did play the original version from the '80s though. Chaos in the Old World is a great game from the opposite perspective -- the players represent evil gods who are trying to take over the world (that being the Warhammer world).

I still have a lot of Avalon Hill wargames. And SPI. And GMT. And MMP. And others. :) They're fun but I don't have time for them like I used to. :( I'm hoping that my kid develops an interest as he gets old enough.

The go-to website for board game info is BoardGameGeek.com. This is where I post a link to my collection, which I have cataloged there: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/DJ%20Kuul%20A?rankobjecttype=subtype&rankobjectid=1&columns=title%7Cstatus%7Cversion%7Crating%7Cbggrating%7Cplays%7Ccomment%7Ccommands&geekranks=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Board+Game+Rank%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09%09&own=1&ff=1&subtype=boardgame

Nobody tell my wife that number or I'm a dead man!!!

Sadly none of my friends play board games. I have a sealed copy of Junta I have been dying to play since I got it. We played a few times in college and it was some of the most fun I have ever had playing a board game.
I know a lot of gamers in NJ. If you like, I could try to put you in touch with someone.

The World Boardgame Championships (really a convention) used to be in Hunt Valley. Good times.

They're in Lancaster, PA now. It's harder to get to via plane, so I haven't been in a while.

I was introduced to Settlers of Catan back around '95 and I haven't been the same since. I enjoy German-style strategy games, and keep a look out for games that play well with two players (my wife and I play). Currently playing a lot of Stone Age, and was playing Dominion before that. Used to love Apples to Apples, and Taboo, and those great party games. Still play A2A once in a while when there's a group for it.

For a while I was collecting a lot of the old 3M bookshelf games (Bazaar, Acquire, Facts in Five, Quinto, etc.), among others, but it was too hard to find friends that liked board games other than Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly. I'll have to look up my login for BoardGameGeek.com as I'm on there too, but haven't visited in ages.

Cannot tell you how much time in college I wasted/enjoyed playing Axis and Allies. You really have to have four players, and a good game can take all night and involve lots of strategy meetings.

My favorites are Chess, Milles Bornes, Ricochet Robot, Stratego, and a few others. I also enjoy several board games that my children love to play.

I've only seen it once at a games/hobby shop, and never seen t again, so I was glad I picked up a copy--
Has anyone else ever seen any trace of Stock Exchange, an "expansion kit" for classic Monopoly, with a cardboard corner slipcover to replace Free Parking with "Stock Exchange", various stock certificates to buy, and appropriate Chance/Community Chest cards?
The idea being, you can buy stock along with your properties, and whenever anyone lands on the former Free Parking space, everyone gets a dividend on the stock they own.

Only got to play it once with a large group, and it changes the dynamics of the game considerably. :D

Scrabble is about the only board game I play nowadays and only infrequently at that.
