Hello all. I just joined and have read through a lot of forums. Seems to me everyone is very nice and helpful. To my questions, I am currently running a denon avr 3312 with (don't laugh) MTX monitor series speakers. I bought them when I was back in high school. But the subwoofer is the pl-200 from acoustech which I might say is the best sub for the money. I sat the pl next to my friends sub 12 from klipsch with a much higher price tag at the time and it blew it out of the water. I am interested in buying the acoustech line that matches the subwoofer since I was so pleased with their product. Clearly I would buy the klipsch reference series II if money wasn't an issue. What are your alls thoughts on the company and quality. Keeping in mind I am a fan of horn loaded speakers. A little bit about my audio history: I first started building speakers at the age of 12 with my father and ever since have much enjoyed the audio field. I would say I am a very mild audiophile compared to many others. Thanks for your time and thoughts. And if anyone is interested in buying my 5 channel mtx monitor series at is near STL let me know.

Welcome to the forum agrojean :)

Sounds like youve got your eye on some good choices. I would add Hsu to your research. Never heard them myself but Ive heard they make good horns, especially for the money. Read up on reviews.

I am heavily considering BIC Acoustec as well. I have had great experiences with my current BIC America Speakers. You'll have to let us know what you end up going with.

I first started with the pl-26 center channel. Great product as well. Dialogue in movies came out that I could never hear before. Can't decide if I want the pl-76 or pl-89 for the towers. Everyone I talk to recommends the pl-89. Any thoughts on those two?

I just ordered my Pl-89s this morning. I have not looked into the Pl-76s myself. The PL-89 IIs got number 2 in the best of floorstanding speakers for under a grand for 2013. I did quite a bit of extensive research comparing some different speakers over the past 2 months and finally came to the conclusion that the Pl-89s would be best.

Thanks a ton. It's really hard for me to spend money on speakers I've never heard. But I will trust your thoughts on them. I almost pulled the trigger yesterday when you replied on the forum!!

The Pl-89 IIs have really got me impressed. Ive played all sorts of music, video games and a movie over them and really have fallen in love with them. I just can't believe how dynamic they are. At first I was skepitical on whether a horn could really pull of what a seperate mid and tweeter could do, but much to my surprise BIC pulled it off. I hear all sorts of higher frequency sounds ive never heard before in my music and the movie. Voices from the movie came through clearer then they do on my current center channel. I wish i had my sound meter back from my buddy because im sure id be impressed with those results. These speakers are also very sensentive at lower volumes so even when their turned down they sould great. As far as the build quality goes these are great. They are heavy which is expected of a better floor standing speaker and the dust covers are made very well too. The binding posts accept banana plugs and are spring louded to all for attaching wires without a banana plug easily.Pictures are to followSent from my SPH-L710 using HTF mobile app

Sorry about the pics being blurry, I used my phone to take the pictures. I may take the DSLR out another day to take some more photos.

Are you talking about these http://www.amazon.com/BIC-Acoustech-PL-66-Surround-Speakers/dp/B005YE7VM2/ref=pd_sim_e_2 ? If so I'd imagine they are made out of the same materials as the PL-89s. Here is the description I found on them: All Acoustech Platinum Series speakers come in elegant enclosures with hand-rubbed black lacquer tops and bottoms. The PL-89s have a black wood grain on the sides so I'm assuming these have the same and they look like it from the side.

I'm sorry I meant the surrounds of the 8 inch drivers on the pl-89s. I really like your set up. Are they taking a lot of break in time? Would u come them to the klipsch reference or synergy series lines if your r familiar with them. Thanks again.

The BIC PL Acoustech is hardly an unknown item.

Everybody I've talked to in the 10+ years that the Acoustech line and Klipsch Synergy have been available...

There is no reason to buy Klipsch Synergy, at all. You get the same performance for less money from the BIC Acoustech.

Reference series of Klipsch shouldn't even be in the discussion with the Acoustech or Synergy.

It would be like a discussion on how the Volkswagen Jetta compares to the Bugatti Veyron.

I like the comparison. So pretty much for the money you really can't bet the bic line. Well hell just to get the midline klipsch reference series your looking at 3000 plus.
