People are still ignoring the fact that this trilogy is not based on one book but based on The Hobbit, The appendices from Return of the King and other writings of Tolkien, along with stuff PJ, Boyens and Walsh just made up, all designed to bridge the gap between the Hobbit and LOTR.

Fixed that for ya.  :D

With LOTR/The Hobbit, more is more! I could easily watch 10 hour cut of each of these films. :)

After watching the 9 hours of appendices I think I appreciate the film more.

I was struck the most by Ian McKellen breaking down into tears over having to perform so much of the movie by himself on a greenscreen (since the in-camera tricks they used to make Gandalf bigger in LOTR don't work when shooting in 3D). Such an intense moment of vulnerability from a great actor. I felt terrible for him!
IMPERIAL OFFICER: Lord Vader, I can't find the Central Navigational Network!

VADER (points to control panel): This......is CNN.

As with the previous LOTR sets, it is intended to not duplicate much materiel on the previous set, including the theatrical cut.

So theatrical version is not included on this set?
