The pre-order page lists a price of $70 after discount...it doesn't even specify how many discs are included, and the French version of this package is a good $25 cheaper, listing 6 discs...until I know more about what's actually included on this package, I'm not pulling the purchase trigger...even getting the individual 2-disc titles at $19.59 apiece is $10 cheaper...

I'm in for this provided the reviews are good when the price drops. It appears the extras are on DVD. I can understand that it's cheaper to do that, but it's tacky and a way to boost the disc count to make it look like you're getting more then you are. Meh.

I don't even consider myself a James Dean fan, though I could eventually
be once I see these films for the first time.

For that reason, I am going to wait for a price drop as well. I won't buy a
set like this for more than $40. I am certain by Christmas there will be an
Amazon Gold Box/Lightning deal.

I'm going to see what the price point is for the UK set.

Good point. I'm not a "fan" either, and though I'm always aware of what the "James Dean films" are, that's of secondary interest. I love these three films for ALL the reasons.

I remind everyone that French Amazon has these 3 movies in a region-free blu-ray box set coming Oct. 2nd for only US$45, for those unwilling to wait for the US website to list this as a Goldbox special...$25 cheaper without having to wait for it...

One of the extra discs is the full-length documentary "George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey", which can often be had on Amazon and the like for under $10.

Amazon.co.uk has just listed the UCE - it appears to be *exactly* the same as the US version - for £21.01 (around $32).
What I expected, thanks John as I just preordered it.

But that still begs the question: are the enclosed DVDs in the European sets region free or Region 2?
I can see why it would be for others, but my Oppos are region modified so it makes no difference to me. Also, some of these extras have been released beforehand so I already have most of them already on DVD.

Ah; looks to be missing a disc from the US set - probably 'George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey' DVD

Same here. I already have the Stevens doc as well; so I, too pre-ordered the UK version.

I have the James Dean Forever DVD too along with just about most of the bonus material from Rebel Without a Cause, Giant and East of Eden.

So, $32 for this set if ordered from the UK?

I am just looking at the picture above. Is that a short-stack version
of the larger Collector's Edition Box?

I would definitely buy this blindly for $32

Ron,

I look at this way, lobby cards and stuff is alright for some folks, but not for me. If I can get all three films plus most of the bonus features for slightly under $32 then that's for me. Chances are, I won't be watching much of the bonus material and the movies in 1080p is what I really wanted anyway.
