I blew wad #1 on Tuesday when it opened, and expect to enjoy a couple more extravaganzas before I'm done.

My wallet will neither forgive nor forget this one.

I'm sure there's some exceptions but usually they do not.
They do for some competitors, like when Best Buy put Criterions on sale not long ago. But I don't think they go up against B&N's regular sales.

The title I really want, The Devil's Backbone, is coming out July 30th. But I'll probably pick up at least The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Come the 29th, keep an eye on this. If I'm remembering correctly, B&N has been known to extend the sale by a day or two. Didn't they do that for one of them last year?

That sure would be great this time.

B&N at Union Square has a large Criterion section, but they didn't have a title I wanted--MISHIMA, so I called the Fifth Ave. store (46th St.) and they had that title and the other priority on my list, so I went there instead, even though they have a smaller Criterion section. I wound up buying six items (3 DVDs and 3 multi-disc sets) containing nine films and a bunch of extras, including at 2&1/2 hour docu. on Mizoguchi. Total: $122 and change.

So what else did I get besides MISHIMA? Glad you asked. I got: BALLAD OF NARAYAMA, UGETSU, PICKPOCKET, YUKIO MISHIMA'S PATRIOTISM, and the four-film set, WHEN HORROR CAME TO SHOCHIKU.

I also ordered Shoah and preordered another title. I'm sure there will be more before August.

Moe,

I would rather abstain, courteously, but will change
the thread title nonetheless.
