Thanks to the wonderful technical staff at our Library of Congress - Packard Campus - we have a technically superior Blu-ray of John Cromwell's Of Human Bondage, with Bette Davis and Leslie Howard in the leads.

Apparently from a 35mm nitrate print, and with wear evident, this element is still head & shoulders above anything else that I've ever encountered.

Copied so that detail and black levels could be reproducible, the final result is quite pleasing, presuming that one understands the age and standards of the original elements.

Wonderful Maugham, great Davis and an interesting look at Mr. Howard.

This is likely the best we'll see in a very long time as it's been stated that WB does not have elements film in their vaults, so it won't likely ever turn up on that front.

Hopefully Kino follows this up with further PD films from the Library of Congress or other such archives and institutions.
