Problem with CEC between Philips TV and LG HCS (1 Viewer)

Hi!

We've just recently bought a new TV and a Home Cinema System, however we cannot get the ARC features working. When playing a BluRay-movie on the HCS, the surround sound works perfectly, but the TV does not channel any other sound through the HCS (as advertised by the salesman).

We're using a newly bought, high-speed HDMI 1.4 cable, we have connected it to the HDMI ARC connection the TV, and in the only HDMI connection on the HCS. We've enable EasyLink on the TV, and have set it to autostart. But we keep getting the error message that the TV failed to connect to the external source and is reverting to the TV speakers.

We tried doing a factory reset on both devices, and we updated both devices through their built-in update function, but nothing seems to work! :(

The devices we're using are:

TV: Philips 40PFL5507T/12
HCS: LG BH6420P

Does anyone here have any ideas about this?

Thanks!
Chris

Thank you for your answer!

Indeed, we have deducted that an optical cable is the only working solution. The (not so) fun twist was that the HCS didn't actually support ARC, although the salesman spent a good 10 minutes praising the awesomeness of it.

Lesson of the day: never trust the sales people!
