DEMONS & DEMONS 2 Steelbooks Coming in 2013Wednesday May 29th, 2013
Hello All,
We wanted to keep everyone updated on DEMONS and DEMONS 2 and we’re pleased to announce a little surprise with these two titles. Synapse Films has been approached by Scanavo, the makers of the Steelbook cases for Blu-ray and DVD, and we have decided to do something a little special for the fans.
As many of you know, for the past few years, Synapse has done “Limited Edition” versions of some of our titles near the holidays. We did the limited edition BLU of INTRUDER with the workprint (sold out in 3 weeks) and, last year, we did the limited edition BLU of THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD (only a couple hundred left).
This year, we’ve decided to do Limited Edition Steelbooks for both DEMONS and DEMONS 2, with exclusive new cover art by the amazing Wes Benscoter. While the street date is expected to be around November, anyone who orders the Limited Editions will be getting theirs shipped as soon as they are done and available (we’ll ship them as soon as they come in to our offices, regardless of street date). These LE Steelbooks will NOT be available in stores and 3000 units will be available direct from our website right here at www.synapse-films.com. Once the units are sold out, they will no longer be available. These are ONE PRESSING ONLY items. Once the Steelbooks are gone, they are gone forever and will NOT be repressed. At this time, we have no plans to release these two films in standard non-limited versions but we may do so in the future.
The price for the Steelbooks will be $39.95 + $6.00 shipping, for a total price of $45.95 each. We will ship on a first-come, first-served basis (we’ll ship the orders in the order in which they are received).
While the discs are not yet 100% finalized, this is what we can tell you:
DEMONS – Limited Edition Steelbook
- Limited Edition Steelbook Featuring All-New Artwork from Wes Benscoter
- Each Steelbook is Blu-ray packaging sized, and will be a “Combo Pack” containing both a Blu-ray (BD-50) and a DVD (DVD-9) of the feature and extras.
- Unlike previous releases, we have the original Italian Language Stereo mix, the “International” stereo alternate dub mix and the original U.S. mono soundtrack!
- Audio Commentary Track with Cast & Crew Featuring Recollections from Director Lamberto Bava, Make-up Effects Artist Sergio Stivaletti, Musician Claudio Simonetti and actress Geretta Geretta.
- Removable English Subtitles for both the U.S. Language Dub Version, as well as the Original Italian Version.
- Collectible Reproduction of the Original Metropol Theatre Ticket seen in the Film.
- The transfer is from a new HD scan of the original 35mm negative, in 1080p/23.98fps 1.66:1 aspect ratio [not the same muted colors and weak black levels as previous released versions].
- All audio tracks will be encoded in DTS-HD MA.
-Featurettes (from Calum Waddell’s HIGH RISING PRODUCTIONS Company) include:
PROFONDO JONES – THE CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE – Interview with Alan Jones
CARNAGE AT THE CINEMA – LAMBERTO BAVA AND HIS SPLATTER MASTERPIECE – 30 Minute Interview with Director Lamberto Bava

I don't buy things anymore but DEMONS was on my to buy list since I just love the film and wanted to see it with a good transfer and some nice extras. However, at that price I'll stick with what I have. I'm sure they'll be excellent releases though.

I won't double dip either. Like you said, what we have is good enough!.

The Synapse releases blow the Arrow Blu-rays out of the water.

I am an Arrow fanboy as they say..............but I couldn't agree more.

I think this is very high praise indeed:
The result is an extremely satisfying experience that ranks as not merely one of the best (if not THE best) presentations of an Italian cult film on BD but one of the best presentations of a catalogue title full stop. 9.5/10

We're all entitled to our own opinions. There are way to many films out there to double dip on.
He was refering to the quality of the Synapse relase vs. the Arrow, not whether or not it's personally worth it to you or anybody else. The Synapse version is far, far superior- whether or not that difference in quality is worth "double dipping" on is obviously up to the individual.

I am surprised these are not getting talked about more, especially as they are being considered one of the best catalogue releases so far.?

In my experience, horror movies aren't really a favorite of many HTFers. Not to mention that the price tag pretty much limits these discs to existing fans only.

Yeah, I really enjoy DEMONS quite a bit and was fully ready to order a copy until I saw the price tag. I understand that it's not a film they feel like they can sell huge amounts of, hence the higher cost of the discs. Still, it's hard for me to justify the cost. Glad Synapse is still doing good work, though!

Finally got round to watching the whole of Demons. Absolutely superb from start to finish, this ranks amongst one of the best restorations I have seen.
The level of detail and clarity is superb and the colour is jaw dropping in particular bringing out the garish lighting that is so much part of this film.

Loved it. 10/10

For me, the Italian audio is essential despite the film being acted in English. Both English dubs are horrendous. Will keep my steelbooks.

While I dig the English dubs on the first film, I agree the Italian audio is essential and it is a little disappointing that Synapse is treating them as extras. I'm happy I've got the steelbooks.
