Barnes and Noble -- EDIT: Sale runs through June 6. All/Most Blurays are 40% off MRSP through Monday. Online includes most blurays .

Members get 10% off instore discs and if you are on BN email lists there is an expected set of coupons going out tomorrow -- 15% off for most people and members may get a 20% off one time use coupon.

The 2 new Gangster sets are $29.99 each so with 10% and if the coupons stack (not always allowed) potentially as low as $ 21.60 each

Standard Criterions are 23.99 each for those who don't want to wait for the anticipated (but not confirmed) July 50% off sale -- potentially $17.27

Rarely on sale discs from Olive and Kino can often be had at excellent prices if you can find them in stock.

If you don't get email coupons/codes from BN and wish to be on their email list you can add you email(s) by entering it in the "Be In The Know" box near the bottom of pretty much every BN.com page. If you add them tonight, you might be able to get the newest coupons. For most of the last few months BN hasn't been releasing any Generic AllComers Multi-use coupons and have gone to these single use Unique ID type coupons, but generally will send out a set every couple of weeks normally limited to 3-4 days -- Thurday to Sunday or Th-Mond

The $8 off $40 is for individual items priced over $40 before any discounts.
the $5 off $50 is $5 off a total purchase of over $50 before tax after other discounts.
You should be able to use them together but you may have to deal with managers since they've been cracking down on coupons it seems, but I've ALWAYS gotten them to work. On top of my 10% member discount with the 40% and 50% sales it's some good deals.

No coupons available for this weekend, but the 40% off everything runs through Monday apparently.

If you have a Save-a-Lot Grocery Store locally and they have Gift Cards, they are running a promo through their Gift Card Mall
to buy a $25 Gift Card and get a $10 discount. These appear to be standard BN GC with no extra fees and no expiration
so essentially you get an immediate 40% discount on anything.

Apparently not all areas and not all stores in an area are particicipants,
but this seems to be a pretty cool way to get something now or stock up on cards for the hoped for Criterion Sale -- or quite frankly for
Graduation gifts or Fathers Day. Other GC's are included but not I'm not sure if all the cards in the rack participate or not, but
Itunes, Kohls, and Home Depot are pictured.

The promo will run from 5/29 to 6/15

The ad specifically says one per transaction, but individual stores seem to have their own interpretations on that.
I purchased 4 on a single CC and single $60 transaction without any problem. Obviously some folks will likely run into
more strict manager/clerks.

I made the following post on May 28th (in another thread) after my trip to B&N last weekend to take advantage of the 40% off Blu sale and the coupons then available.

I will make bold the section I think people should be aware of heading into this weekend's sale:

Here's my report on my trip to Barnes & Nobel yesterday.

I picked up a number of discs which were on my wish list. I was armed with my B&N membership card (giving me another 10% off and two coupons which had been e-mailed to me (one for 20% off one item and the other for 15% off one item).

There were a number of Olive titles there...along with their usual fine collection of Criterion titles. I struck up a conversation with their media sales guy after he questioned me about the Criterion disc in my hand. It turned out he was quite a film buff (as well as an independent film maker). In a matter of just a few minutes we had sequed from Robert Altman to Plasma displays and back again. I took one of my business cards and wrote the URL to the HTF on it so maybe we'll be getting ourselves a new member!

Anyway, when I answered his question about the Criterion I was holding, I remarked that I had a number of Olive titles in my hand that had really captured my attention. That got him even more curious and he rattled off a number of Olive titles that he had his eye on, too! He then told me it was a good thing I was picking up the Olive titles I wanted because he said his store, after the end of the 40% off sale was going to be sending back most (if not all) of the Olive titles on their shelf! I asked him if he knew why and he responded that there is a list, every week, of titles which need to be returned from the store...but that he had noticed that this week's returns were exceptionally Olive heavy. He speculated that maybe Olive had lost their rights to some of the titles which had been licensed to them. I told him I didn't think that was the case but then regaled him with the news about some Best Buy stores giving up their floor space for CDs and films to their in-house stores. He didn't think that was in the future for B&N.

He did, however, provide some affirmation about how he, too, often stops into Best Buy because of their loss-leader prices on new releases only to be totally disappointed with their DVD/Blu section (disorganization, lousy inventory, etc.)

So, I hope it doesn't mean that B&N brick and mortars aren't going to stop stocking Olive titles altogether. I guess time will tell.

I suspect not as well -- the 2 stores I usually expect to find a good number of Olive and Kino were sort of bare. I saw The Quiet Man and a couple
others, plus several of the Sophia Loren releases, but it was a bit disappointing.

Still a near complete Criterion Bluray section except for most of the OOP releases and RepoMan which was apparently sold out.

I did get the Gangsters Box for a hair over $20 after a couple coupons last week.

Next week should be the beginning fo the B2G1 sale, but unless there is a little overlap with the 40%, the prices of most items
will be higher. As always I'm preparing for the July 50% sale. it's been a long time since November and there are too many
Criterions I just hear whispering my name at 3am when it's quiet.,

Have to agree with that. As long as the Criterion/B&N relationship endures, and as long as the B&N brick-and-mortar media departments endure, they'll get my $25 per year and I'll continue in my role as their obedient servant.

I buy plenty of things online. But the experience of shopping for Criterions and other quality products in the store -- where I can visually inspect and choose the package that doesn't have floaters or mangled inserts (thanks to Criterion's clear cases!) -- is one I value to the point that losing it will bring about the end of MY relationship with B&N.

(Not to mention the value of real-life store shopping in the first place. I won't let it go.)

I love being able to shop in-stores.

And as I've mentioned in other places, there just aren't that many places to shop for discs any more. I was in a Wal-Mart last night and forced myself to take a spin around their media section. It was horrible. Poorly organized (as always. If someone could explain to me the chaos of a W-M media section...) and lousy titles. Shopping at my local B&N is a night and day experience compared to a Wal-Mart or Target.

Three cheers for B&N...and my local TransWorld (FYE) stores.

Glad to hear one of the Criterion B&N sales is coming up next month.

Heads up for the adventurous sorts. Tonight is the changeover from the 40% sale ending and the beginning of 6/4 B2G1 sale.

If the stars align properly somewhere between Midnight Eastern and 1:30-2 am EDT there is always a possibility of those 2 sales
adding together. It's happened once or twice in the last 3-4 years, but most of the time it fizzles.
The possibility of 3 Regular Criterions for $47.98 isn't really a bad deal -- though not quite as good as 3 for 39.98 like last
July at the end of the B2G1 and 50% overlap.

If it happens it will end pretty quickly sometime before 3am EDT and often earlier as the sales prices often change back to normal
prices prior to the 3am mark. some years the prices didn't change, but the B2G1 didn;t go active until morning or the On Sale disc
were blocked for the combined sale.

EDIT: Doesn't look like any extra help tonight so I expect the prices to be back to full price tomorrow. Now just have to be patient until next months 50% off sale.

Night-owl Alert. there is currently a window B2G1 at the 40% discounted prices on several of the Blurays.

About 6 of the 29.99 selections are still 17.99 and are eligible for the B2G1 sale at least temporarily
About 100 or so of the 39.99 items are still priced at 23.99 and allowing the new promotion as well.

I seems like prices are updating slowly and items are being pulled off the 40% off sale and re-priced to Usual BN prices so I don't know how long this may last.

EDIT: the small overlap window didn't last very long and the prices reverted around 3-4 am to pre-40% prices varying from MSRP to 7% to 27% discounts. At 27% and with B2G1 free the prices are pretty much the same as Amazon/BBY 50% prices (unless you have some the discounted GC's)

Thanks for the info! I just picked up some Criterion titles at Amazon's current 50% Off Sale. Still, not all of Criterion's titles were included in the sale. Too bad that B&N didn't extend their 40% Off Sale longer, but, hopefully, they'll run their semi-annual 50% Off Sale for ALL Criterion titles in mid-July, as they did last year.

If any of the HTF members need a few BN 15% off codes to use I do have some extras. If you'll Message me (or just add a post in the thread) and tell me how many you need -- don't be shy. These expire sunday night (6/9) at closing time in-store and 2:59am EDT 6/10 onlineThese will work on line and instore on many of the items that are eligible for the B2G1 sales. If you put 3 eligible items in the cart the Free one is listed and the 15% off will be taken from teh most expensive item. Online you can only you 1 coupon per order, In store they often let you use one per item though the instore prices aren't very good at all right now even with the member 10% and coupons though there are a couple things that it makes a worthwhile deal.Sadly it won't work for many of the 40-50% off sets -- The Buster Keaton box is 149 for now and was hoping to get it with another 20% discount, but it wouldn't work.With Fathers Day next week i'd expect a new round of weekend coupons to be sent out sometime Thurday.

Wow, up from the dead. I opened the thread hoping and then realized I was the the original poster and then that it was from last year,.

There is a current B2G1 deal going on until June 2. There are some rumors that there will be a 40% sale that starts afterwards, but I haven't had any
confirmation from anywhere yet. Best rumor I've found suggests the 40% will start June 3 so I was hoping there might be one of those short period double sale overlaps, but officially the B2G1 end 11:59pm EDT June 2 instead of Pacific Time. There is always a little hope of a overlapping sale, but I'm not expecting it. The last couple times BN listed a sale ending EDT it seemed to be telling the truth.

Everybody is still expecting the Criterion 50% sale to start in July and from past sales the most likely start date should be July 8

The expected 40% sale is now active. Most Blurays are 40% off MSRP online, supposedly everything in store is supposed to 40% Off.
This sale is supposed to run 2 weeks through the end of business Monday night June 16.

Still no official word on the Criterion sale.
For those interested BN ended the B2G1 before the 40% prices were active so no goldmines this year.
