I hooked up a turntable through an Onkyo TX-SR304. The volume is weak, compared to CD player volume for example. Do I need an amplifier? If so, what should I be looking for? I assume something pretty basic.

Thanks!

Yes you need a phono pre-amp. They are as cheap as $20.

Unless your turntable is MM. Then they are more money.

Here is one capable of both...in case you just want to buy one...then you never need to worry about the type of turntable you buy in the future...

Thank you both. The turn table is old so it's MC. I picked up a TC-750, looks like what I need to groove on some vinyl!
