“Lilting, luminescent Quartet deserves the bravos.

Dustin Hoffman directs with elegance. A talented cast gives superb performances.”

Claudia Puig, USA Today

“Best of the Year!

Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut is a charming concoction set at a British retirement home for musicians and singers. It should be enough to simply list the fantastic actors who make up the singers in the quartet of the title — Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Pauline Collins and Billy Connolly — to convince you that you should see it, and soon.

~ Austin O’Connor, AARP.com

"The magnificent Dame Maggie is the diva divine. Her wit still stings...But Hoffman also has the grace to let cinematographer John de Borman light this acting legend simply sitting still, showing a timeless fire and beauty. Sit back and behold."

~Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“A Must See Movie For All Ages.”

Academy Award®-winner Dustin Hoffman makes his directorial debut with QUARTET, starring Academy Award®-winnerMaggie Smith, Academy Award®-nominee Tom Courtenay, Academy Award®-nominee Pauline Collins, and Billy Connolly

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the critically acclaimed film QUARTET, from Academy Award®-winner Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate, Rain Man, Midnight Cowboy, Meet the Fockers) making his directorial debut.

Beecham House is abuzz. The rumor circling the halls is that the home for retired musicians is soon to play host to a new resident. Word is, it's a star. For Reginald Paget (Tom Courtenay), Wilfred Bond (Billy Connolly) and Cecily Robson (Pauline Collins) this sort of talk is par for the course at the gossipy home. But they're in for a special shock when the new arrival turns out to be none other than their former singing partner, Jean Horton (Maggie Smith). Her subsequent career as a star soloist, and the ego that accompanied it, split up their long friendship and ended her marriage to Reggie, who takes the news of her arrival particularly hard. Can the passage of time heal old wounds? And will the famous quartet be able to patch up their differences in time for Beecham House's gala concert?

QUARTET was nominated for the 2013 Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for Maggie Smith.  The film was voted one of Top Ten Independent Films of 2012 by the National Board of Review and winner of the Hollywood Breakthrough Director Award for Dustin Hoffman at the 2012 Hollywood Film Festival.

I was fortunate enough to go to the premiere of this film at TIFF last September. Director Dustin Hoffman and as well as Maggie Smith and Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, and Pauline Collins were all on hand, and did a Q&A after. It's not a great film, but I did enjoy it, and will pick up the Blu-ray.
