I am having a strange issue where none of Robert Harris' "A Few Words About..." threads are viewable for me.

I can view any other thread in the BluRay forum, but when I click on any of RAH's threads, the browser just sits there trying to load indefinitely. This seems to happen for any thread titled "A Few Words About...". This occurs for all the threads in the "A Few Words About" sub-forum as well. I have not been able to load these threads since HTF moved to the new platform.

I am using Firefox, BTW. Any help is appreciated.

Update: I get the same behavior in Chrome with all cookies and cache cleared.

I've had huge problems with the forum recently.
No updated threads reach me via gmail any more, nor do any of Robert Harris's 'A Few Words' or any of his posts.
I did regularly receive updates also to the listings of pre-'90s Blu ray releases .. those have totally disappeared as well. I'm using Firefox also. It's most aggravating......
My profile was also mysteriously cleared of pic and all data .. I've updated and replaced but am still not receiving any gmail updates for any of the topics I was following.....

Yanman,

Please email [email protected] - we will work with you to get this resolved. We haven't heard this particular issue anywhere else so it may take some back and forth to understand the cause.

Anthony,

The email notifications about a thread or forum area are something we are working on. If you were following any specific forum areas, you will need to follow those again, as only topic subscriptions were ported over.

Can you please email a screenshot of your notification settings from this page?

Is this still happening today? I tested it with the same permissions you had and didn't have any issues. Can you try again?

Yes, I am still seeing the issue today.

I typically only log on when I need to post, so I am usually reading the forums without being logged in.

I just tested accessing those threads while not logged in and while logged in, and the issue is present in both cases.

YanMan - we can also test with your account, if you're okay with that. That will establish the answer once and for all.

OK, the problem seems to be gone today (for the first time since the forum moved). Not sure if anyone fixed anything or if this is blind luck, but thanks for the replies and offers to investigate.

I'll be in touch if the problem comes back.

I reapplied some permissions this morning, perhaps that fixed it. Thank you for your patience!

I can see his "A Few Words About" threads, but they are only in the Blu-Ray and DVD sections. They don't show up in his dedicated "A Few Words About" subforum like they used to do on the old server.

I am subscribed to RAH's A Few Words about... sub-forum and none of his threads are showing up in "Content" lists.

Guys,
That is actually because Robert is posting them in the Blu-ray area. Unlike Huddler - IP.Board does not show threads from subforums. I hope that makes sense. Please let me know if that's confusing. You could follow Robert instead and then see all his posts/threads and filter that way.

It's a little confusing, Dave...since the "A Few Words About..." sub-forum is listed on the Blu-Ray Forum Index Page...and has a "Follow This Forum" button at the top of it's index page like any other forum page.

And you say that RAH is posting his threads in the Blu-ray forum...yet none of his threads appear in the Blu-ray Index Page. Come to think of it, based on what you say...it's really confusing!

I understand your point about how we can follow RAH to be "subscribed" to his threads...except that I don't see how to "follow" a member on the IP.Board software.

Regardless, if there is a way to subscribe to RAH...I don't think it makes sense to have RAH's sub-forum set up to look like a sub-forum and act like a sub-forum...if it isn't really a sub-forum.

Mike - The Blu-ray forum is a totally separate "forum" from the RAH area. Since Robert is choosing to post his threads in that area, that is where they show up. In order to see them you would need to subscribe to the specific section where he is posting them.

Now with respect to your final comment about looking and acting like a sub-forum, it absolutely works as intended. Unfortunately - if nothing is posted there, you won't see it in your Content I Follow. Huddler had a unique bug/feature which showed all subforum posts in the parent forum's area - something that does not work the same way in IP.Board.

Actually you can't currently follow a member. We are working on some ways to make it easier to keep tabs on the latest "A Few Words" columns and should have an update for you by Monday.

Dave:

I have absolutely no doubts about what you are saying about how the forum software works.

I'm just providing feedback from a user's point-of-view. It sure LOOKS like RAH's threads are in the "A Few Words About..." sub-forum.

This is what I see when I click on the "Blu-ray, DVD, Streaming Video and Digital Download" button on the Forum Nav drop-down menu:

View attachment 842

It "looks" like there are two sub-forums in the Blu-ray forum: "3-D Blu-ray" and RAH's "A Few Words About...".

Then, when I click on the RAH link, it takes me to an index page of RAH's threads...which makes it look like they are neatly oroganized in the sub-forum:

View attachment 843

So why I don't question the way you say things are set up, it is confusing to users if the forum doesn't represent things the way they are.

Then, the other weird thing about it...is if RAH's threads are really housed in the Blu-ray forum, they aren't listed there (on the Blu-ray Index Page).

Maybe the answer would be to move all his threads into the sub-forum??

OK we have put all of the Few Words About threads into the main Blu-ray forum. If you want to filter on the most recent ones there is a link at the top of the Blu-ray forum and one under the review links on the menu bar. Here is the link.

But there is no easy way to "follow" all of RAH's threads...except to click on each one and click the "follow this topic" button?

This will require those members who rely on their subscriptions to keep current with the HTF to have to deviate from their routines in order to keep up with RAH's output.
