I have a defunct Sony V700E Hi8 Camcorder, with which I have taken many tapes. I cannot now replay those tapes. I have the opportunity to buy a second hand Samsung VP-W80 Hi 8 Handycam. Question: will I be able to replay my Hi8 tapes, originally shot on the Sony V700E, using this Samsung camera?

Hi8mm was a defined format, so your tapes should play in the Samsung camcorder. Also, welcome to Home Theater Forum!

That's one option, a better one might be to take em all to Costco and have em burn em to DVD for ya....

I lost my signature and all I got was this Nutter t-shirt
