Can't get HD audio on blu-ray (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to help my dad get his system setup. He has an Onkyo TX-NR809 and Sony BDP-S590. The firmware is up to date. I have the blu ray player set to bitstream and it still displays "PCM" on the receiver. Whatever word that carries more weight than frustrated would work for me right now.

In the Audio Setup menu on the 590 make sure BD Audio Mix Setting is set to Off. It might be a setting in the receivers setup menu. Go into the main Menu, select Listenning Mode Preset and select the input you have the Sony plugged into (probably BR/DVD) and select Digital not PCM.
