Home Entertainment’s release of Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Third Season, available in stores June 11, 2013. Join one of television’s hottest crime-solving teams, Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, as they star in 15 gripping episodes of the enormously popular cable TV series’ third season. This must-own DVD release will also feature bonus content, including behind-the-scenes featurettes, unaired scenes and a gag reel. The release of Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Third Season will be timed to the show’s fourth season premiere on TNT. Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Third Season will retail for $39.98.
Based on the best-selling crime thriller books by Tess Gerritsen and developed by writer and former crime reporter Janet Tamaro (Bones, Lost), Rizzoli & Isles stars Angie Harmon as Boston detective Jane Rizzoli, and Sasha Alexander as medical examiner Maura Isles. Together they are close friends and complete opposites who solve some of Boston’s most notorious crimes. In season three, Jane and Maura must set aside their personal difficulties in order to keep on top of the city’s most heinous murder cases. Yet analyzing corpses and tracking killers is child’s play compared to the complications that arise from both friends’ respective parental units: Angela falls for Jane’s boss, Maura meets her biological mother, and Jane’s infant nephew is the son of either her brother…or her father! Using intellect and instinct, the best friends do what it takes to regain each other’s trust — after all, the season starts when Jane has just shot Maura’s biological father — while they bust criminals.
In its third season, Rizzoli & Isles continued to be a major ratings hit for TNT. Season three ranked as TNT’s highest rated series among Females 18-49 and 25-54. The third season delivered an average of 7.5 million total viewers (Live+7) and was TNT’s most-watched series.*
“Angie and Sasha are irresistible as Jane and Maura, and they are a delight to watch. The two consistently captivate audiences with their sharp, witty and intelligent portrayals of the characters Janet Tamaro has so brilliantly brought to the screen,” said Rosemary Markson, WBHE Senior Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. She added, “After delivering solid ratings year after year, Rizzoli & Isles continues to be a hit with viewers. We’re thrilled to bring another season of this exceptional series to consumers.”
“Solving intriguing and unusual crime mysteries is a big part of the show,” added showrunner Tamaro. “But fans ofRizzoli & Isles also tune in for the relationships between these quirky, complex characters. Like a real family, these characters have to live with each other and not only celebrate life’s victories but survive the missteps. We’re pleased to be able to give the fans another exciting season of episodes — in this very cool package.”
Rizzoli & Isles is based on the best-selling crime thriller books by Tess Gerritsen. Gerritsen has had nine consecutive New York Times bestselling hardcovers. Over eight million copies of Rizzoli & Isles are currently in print.
In addition to Harmon and Alexander, the series stars Jordan Bridges (Rushlights, Mona Lisa Smile) as Jane’s younger brother and a Boston patrol officer who hopes to follow in her footsteps as a detective; Lee Thompson Young (Akeelah and the Bee, FlashForward) as Jane’s partner, the computer savvy but squeamish Detective Barry Frost; Brian Goodman (Revenge, Sons of Anarchy, The Last Castle) as Lieutenant Detective Sean Cavanaugh, whose knowledge of the hardscrabble back alleys of Boston and history as a detective make him the perfect choice to head the Homicide unit; with Bruce McGill (Law Abiding Citizen, W.) as the seasoned and lovable Detective Vince Korsak, Rizzoli’s former partner who was initially hurt to find Jane partnered with Frost; and Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos) as Jane’s nosy but warm-hearted mother, Angela Rizzoli, who moved into Maura’s guesthouse after her recent divorce and works at the coffee shop inside the Boston Police Department.
Rizzoli & Isles is produced for TNT by Hurdler Productions and Ostar Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television. The series is executive produced by Janet Tamaro, Bill Haber (TNT’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King), and Michael Katleman (Memphis Beat, Life on Mars).
