Is anyone considering buying Pebble? (1 Viewer)

Been hearing about this watch.
I am really teetering on buying it, but I feel that it's still
somewhat primitive and that Apple may very well put out
something in the next year that would blow it away.
Here is the video. Let me know what you think and if
you are actually considering buying one...

Here's another smartwatch that is making an appearance.
Way too bulky to be attractive.
However, it is apparent the race is on for a slim-line smartwatch
and it will be interesting to see what Apple comes up with, if
anything at all.

I wear a big ass Tag Heuer on special occaissions and love it. But I have no need for a watch and with my fat wrists they look terrible and make my arms feel worse. So no, the pebble is out for me.

I always plow watches into walls, so I don't wear watches...because I care about the walls!!!

In these times (pun intended of course), with everyone carrying a smart phone, with DVRs, microwaves, ovens, and an infinite number of other appliances around us having digial clocks on them, watches are an anachronism. Their value is purely for style now. I wouldn't consider these, or anything that Apple might put out to compete, stylish, but YMMV.

Now you can tell people to "talk to the hand" and mean it...

My smartphone IS my watch.

I wouldn't mind having something like this to show notifications from my phone without having to actually look at the phone. However, from what I have scene, it appears a bit bulkier than I would like. I think I will probably wait for second gen model that is a bit slimmer/more compact. Definitely like the idea though. -Keith

So happy to see Apple is working on something that I am looking forward
to buying.

I think it would be better to have a watch that relays information and updates from your phone rather than a full blow extra device, but that's probably not the kind of high margin device Apple would consider making.

Hanson, I agree. I keep my Android in my pocket. To have everything updated to my watch so I can simply turn my wrist to see who is calling, who is text messaging or otherwise is sufficient enough. I just worry about Android compatibility. Will this be a watch only compatible with iOS devices? Think Apple would paint themselves in a dark corner with that one.

I wear a watch, but to me it's an important part of the business culture. I usually check my phone even though i'm wearing a watch

I won't be buying a Pebble or even alleged iWatch. But these are intriguing ideas, and look forward to what develop in this techno-accessory space.

I haven't worn a watch in years, but I thought the Pebble was a neat enough idea that I backed their Kickstarter campaign. Should be getting mine before too long.

David, Please let us know what you think of Pebble. I came close to purchasing it, but I think I am going to wait to see what Apple comes up with.

We've been reading articles from NYT and WSJ for a couple years on the TV apple is developing...so don't hold your breath on an Apple watch I was thinking about this a bit. I think a watch is a fashion piece first. And watch selection is very diverse. I don't think people want to buy and wear the identical fashion accessory as everyone else. Apple's method of selling a one-size-fits-all device seems like a loser for the watch market. Additionally, men's watches are typically larger than women's; Apple hasn't to date made gender-specific devices (and electronics companies that have tried usually produce ghastly hot-pink models for women). Finally, I think analog watches are more popular than digital. And the attractive digital watches mimic analog; see the middle Pebble image as example. If Apple does this, count on a retina screen, or better, to mimic an analog watch. (Crazy idea: mimic the dimensionality of real watch, using the accelerometers to give tilt and orientation, to create the shadows and depth of the hands.) To be really out there, I think Apple needs to convince people they need a second watch, worn alongside their normal watch. That way it's universal gadget, like a phone, that complements normal attire and fashion.

Rumors are that Samsung is working on a watch as well. When they were babies they'd grab my watch and dig their tiny nails into my wrist and start pulling on it. I hated that. I like the idea of a watch connected to my phone. Quick glance at the wrist to check the outside temp, or to see what that alert was about without having to dig out my phone. I don't think I'd get one, tho. I prefer a spiffy analog.
