During the entire month of January and February Home Theater Forum will be asking our membership to nominate and then vote upon the BEST and WORST Blu-ray releases of 2012. What makes our awards so important is that they aren't voted from within the industry by committees or journalists. The selection of these awards begin and end with the HTF membership -- those individuals that know Blu-ray better than anyone else!

VOTE FOR THE TOP NOMINATED TITLES: January 20-March 3rd

Winners Will be announced March 4th

PLEASE READ THESE RULES VERY CAREFULLY

You may only vote once per category
Discussion is allowed in these threads

Please Note: Usually we only post the top 5 nominations.  However member nominations were so close in this category we added an additional title.

WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE RELEASED IN 2013?

What Blu-ray title would you like to see finally released in 2013?

Porgy and Bess is one of the few movies to win at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammies. it was also included in the National Film Registry last year. Cruelly suppressed for decades by the Gershwin estate, it now appears that it can be released if someone is interested. This film is very deserving of support. It needs support in order to have a chance.

Interesting to note that 5 out of 6 of these films are distributed by Warner Bros.

It's been 14 years since we got the one and only non-anamorphic "Abyss" DVD - we need an upgrade!

Yes. And I'm a big fan of The Abyss and of James Cameron. But it's certain that that title is coming out on blu-ray. The other titles are more questions marks, and so are more worthy of votes imho to nudge the studios to work on them.

Sorry, but after waiting all this time without even an anamorphic upgrade, I regarded nothing about "Abyss" as "certain".  I'll believe there's a BD of it when I have it in my hands...

that could be true. I think there was a member here that did ask Cameron about the abyss. Cameron said that he was going to work on it. if you remember the color correction that he did on aliens. he plans to do that with the abyss. I have no problem with that. I believe the plan was for 2014 for the 25th anniversary of theater release. which was 1989. Its the only title in my all time favorites that is not on blu ray. Jacob

Okay, I confess. I'd like to see all of these titles make it to hi-def in 2013 - particularly The Big Sleep and Ryan's Daughter - the latter an underrated David Lean masterpiece. My list of must haves is a tad more comprehensive than the one provided above. I'd also like to see the following come out on Blu soon! Marie Antoinette (1938) The Women (1939) Romeo & Juliet (1936) The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) Scaramouche (1952) The Merry Widow (1934) Dinner At Eight Random Harvest Goodbye Mr. Chips (1939) Dark Victory All This And Heaven Too Jezebel The Roaring Twenties To Have and Have Not El Cid The Fall of the Roman Empire 55 Days at Peking Two For the Road The Ghost and Mrs. Muir Hello Dolly! Mary Poppins Song of the South 101 Dalmatians Swiss Family Robinson Bedknobs and Broomsticks Pollyanna The Parent Trap (1961) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Around the World In 80 Days Giant Gunga Din Bringing Up Baby Holiday Inn Holiday (1938) Bringing Up Baby Foreign Correspondent I Confess Stage Fright The Talk of the Town The Bishop's Wife The Best Years of Our Lives Wuthering Heights (1939) Anastasia (1956) The House of Telegraph Hill Roadhouse Rosalie Broadway Melody of 1936/38/40 A Tale of Two Cities Lost Horizon (1937) ...okay, I'll stop now. But you get my drift.

It was a toss-up for me between Ryan's Daughter and Raintree County. In the end, I picked Raintree because at least I can enjoy Ryan's Daughter on DVD while waiting for its Blu-ray.

I might be wrong but wasn't Rantree County already the winner for 2012?

I was largely lurking at the time and didn't pay attention to the voting last yeear, but did a quick search and found that it was the 2012 winner. Let's hope it gets released this year so it won't have to be a contender for next year's voting. ;)
