Posted Image

Dear Ronald,  welcome to our first issue of the new year. If you haven't read the AV Dept. news before, we present to content owners and retailers alike, the growingPosted Imageportfolios of film and music titles now available through on demand technologies. Media on Demand or "burn on demand" insures that no title is removed from the retail supply chain as it is made when ordered. No inventory, no backorders, no delists, always 100% ready to ship so a retailer has comfort in offering the complete catalog of titles, a Studio need not pull a title from circulation due to lower velocity sales and most importantly, the consumer will find the title they want from a reliable retailer on a high quality DVD or CD.

Whether you produce, distribute, retail or simply enjoy movies and music, the AV MOD Collection has the solution to the quickly changing media distribution channels.

Best of success to you in 2013,

Richard Skillman

Silencing the Song: An Afghan Fallen Star  HBO Documentary Films presents Silencing the Song: An Afghan Fallen Star, a follow up to the Sundance Award-winning Afghan Star, which premiered on HBO in March 2010. Afghan Star followed the stories of four contestants on Afghanistan?s hugely popular reality-TV singing competition, including one named Setara, who caused an uproar by dancing on stage, and worse, letting her head scarf fall to reveal her hair. In this 35-minute companion documentary, director Havana Marking returns to Afghanistan to check in on Setara, examining the impact that her controversial turn on the show has had on her life and her country. Though Setara?s performance might be considered modest by Western standards, in Afghanistan, where strict rules govern women?s behavior, her actions have put her life in danger. She was publicly denounced by Muslim clerics and she has received death threats. Now, married and expecting her first baby, Setara must juggle her own safety with being a wife and mother, all the while putting her dreams of becoming a pop star on hold, at least for the moment.HBO

Hitler  1962  Richard Basehart delivers an incendiary performance as history's most notorious madman in this searing exposé of the private life of Adolf Hitler. A semi-factual account of the Füehrer's rise and fall, this rarely seen film follows Hitler's political career from the failed Beer Hall Putsch of 1923 to his suicide in a Berlin bunker at the end of WWII. Inspired by a 1959 interview with a woman who claimed to be his lover, Hitler mixes historical fact with the theory that impotence and an Oedipal complex fueled the Füehrer's psychotic quest for power. Costarring John Banner (Hogan's Heroes) and Cordula Trantow in a Golden Globe®-nominated* performance as the Füehrer's beloved niece Geli, Hitler was the final film directed by Stuart Heisler, whose career spawned hits in a wide range of genres including mystery (The Glass Key), comedy (Along Came Jones), musicals (Blue Skies) and drama (Storm Warning).  Warner Bros.  Richard Basehart, Maria Emo, John Banner

I Escaped From The Gestapo 1943  Ordered to bust convicted forger Torgut Lane (Dean Jagger) out of prison, Nazi agents deliver him to their Los Angeles hideout, where the spies' leader (John Carradine) forces him to produce counterfeit bills to undermine the Allied war effort. Failing at his attempts to make an escape, Lane engraves a message on one of the plates in a daring attempt to tip off the Feds and foil the saboteurs' plans. Although Mary Brian (The Virginian) played the female lead in I Escaped from the Gestapo, the part was originally intended for Frances Farmer. Arrested for assaulting a hairdresser during her first day of shooting, the troubled actress was committed to a sanitarium, her footage in a montage sequence marking Farmer's last screen appearance for 15 years.  Warner Bros.  Dean Jagger, John Carradine, Mary Brian

After heroically saving his crew from disaster aboard a navy submarine, Scotty McClenahan becomes an overnight celebrity. Lucrative job offers roll in. Banquets, newspapers and ticker-tape parades hail him. Advertisers want his endorsements. Passersby want his handshake. Meanwhile, a buzzsaw of a press agent keeps events snapping and spiraling. And Scotty, too private a man to enjoy the adoring glare of the public eye, feels he is "walking a tightrope on roller skates." The pell-mell pace and privacy intrusions are undermining the one thing he values most: his marriage. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (Gunga Din) portrays Scotty, Mary Brian (1931's The Front Page) is his wife, and Walter Catlett is a scheming PR man in this satiric comedy-drama whose story was likely inspired by the acclaim that greeted aviator Charles Lindbergh.  Warner Bros.  Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Mary Brian,  Walter Catlett
