Hello, first post. Im looking to update my older SACD DVD player to a new blu ray sacd unit. Looking for advice before buying my next one. My budget will be under $350 range. Thanks! Drew C

Welcome to HTF! The only combo player I could find in your price range is the Denon DBP-1611UD, available at Crutchfield.com. I have the Oppo BDP-93, which is more expensive, but a solid player. It was recently replaced by the Oppo BDP-103. Amazon sells them.

I had to look deep in the description to see SACD mentioned on the Sony. $100 for that (at Amazon) is not bad. Note that the Denon and Oppo also support DVD-Audio.

point well taken! I do have a small collection of SACD now. Would the music dvd be easier to find and worth the extra cost upgrade? I have a 5.1 surround system that id like to use to its full potential. Drew

99% of all DVD-Audio discs also include a 5.1 Dolby Digital layer so they can be played on a regular dvd/br player, but not in hi-resolution of course. Pioneer also makes a $199 BluRay/SACD but it doesn't support DVD-A. The $400 Elite BD-62 does. AC4L.com has the DBP-1611UD for $277 + sh but I'd definently opt for the 3 or 5 year extended warranty. BR players have too many moving parts. http://www.accessori...D-Player/1.html For $100 those Sony BR/SACD players are very hard to beat. There are still good deals on some SACD/DVD-A discs like Pink Floyds DSOTH and Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. But some titles like Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles are getting pretty expensive, if you can find them. It seems like SACD is for the Jazz/Classical crowd while DVD-A is more Classic and Pop Rock. But they have titles in all genre's.
"Everyday room": Panasonic 58" Plasma, Dish HD DVR, Pioneer Elite vsx-23, BDP-23 BR, dv58avi universal dvd player, Paradigm Studio 20 V1, CC-450, Dayton HSU-10 subwoofer.

"Movie/Music room": Toshiba 65" DLP, Dish HD receiver, Marantz 7005, CC-4003, BD-7006, Polk LSI25's-LSi7's-LSiC, 2 original Dayton 10" "Mighty-Mites" subwoofers. (subject to change without notice).

Also have  MB Quart Vera VS05 +.....too much to list. Help me.

If you get into this... Learn how to buy from... http://www.amazon.de/ Spain and the UK are also good. Germany, as a country, hasn't gone "MP3 crazy" like the rest of the world. You can also find various Brazilian stores selling SACD/DVD-A that were never sold here...

Just bought a Sony BDP-S790 which plays bd and sacd and am very happy with the unit. My other players are a PS3 and Oppo BDP-93. I was expecting to dislike a relatively cheaper priced player but am pleasantly surprised by the performance and load times of the 790. This should be well within your budget and I got mine on a Black Friday special for 150

Does anybody know if the BDP-BX18 (Sam's Club) plays SACDs? Thanks!
