Holiday Challenge 2012
This challenge is just to have fun watching holiday stuff between Dec 1st-Dec 31st.
You may also wish to start sooner as you could get in Thanksgiving stuff too.
Any Christmas or New Years Eve movies, TV shows, holiday specials, cartoons, shorts...
No points, no beating who. Just have fun.
Another option for those that don't celebrate Christmas, is to watch movies that
are centered around the holidays but don't necessarily clarify as a holiday movie.
Ex. The Apartment (1960) takes place between Christmas and New Years.
Annie Hall (1977) has a character breaking up with someone over the holidays.
You could even watch Ghostbusters II since it takes place between Christmas and New Years.
It's a nice alternative to those that don't have to be subjected to Christmas movies.
Remind me, what are some of the Christmas movies I can watch? (Not everything is listed)

HOLIDAY AFFAIR is an extremely good movie for those who haven't seen it.
I haven't really made my mind up yet on what I'm going to watch but I might try to track down the versions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL that I haven't seen. I also plan on hitting the SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT remake, Kino's Christmas disc and going through the DIE HARD series (I think only the first is at Christmas).
I'm going to try and introduce my kid to GRINCH but I'll probably have to lie to him and say Scooby is in it. :D

Oh what the heck, I'm in.  This will be my placeholder.
The movie Babe has a sequence that takes place during Christmas.  When Harry Met Sally... has its climax on New Year's Eve.  Would those two be eligible?
There's nothing wrong with watching non-Christmas movies that have Christmas elements to them for this. As always, share your thoughts. Especially about the Christmas/New Years stuff.
Just remember, this is the time to have fun without the point totals.
Don't forget TV shows!
With me, I'm watching everything Christmas.
I have a huge list of TV and Movies I'll be watching.
I even have a few things I've never seen before like Muppet Christmas Carol, Babes in Toyland and Holiday Affair

Alright!!
No points=genius.
Thank you John for starting this thread. I have a ton of Christmas tv shows to watch, and a handful of films.
This will be fun.

Oh, heck, I'm in. I have hardly anything Christmas related but maybe I have more than I think. I have Miracle on 34th Street and Christmas Vacation of course. I think there is one Supernatural and a couple of X-files that are Christmas related so I have those. I'll have to go through my library.
Consider this my placeholder, or are we going to bother with lists?

The list will be for the sake of keeping track of what you watch.
I'm making a list cause I have a lot.
I'll provide the links if you so wish.

On ABC FAMILY Sunday Nov 25th at 8pm
is the world premiere of Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist.
A little boy (now named Finn) moves into a new house in Maine.
It's Christmas time and Finn thinks his house is being haunted by a Christmas spirit.
In order to catch it, he builds traps. But it also so happens that his ghost traps catch burglars that are trying to break into his home.
Also on ABC Family...
Nov 25th 12pm is Richie Rich's Christmas Wish
Also the NEW Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Snowmen" airs Dec 25th at 9pm on BBC
I'll add this to the main schedule on the first post for reminders.

I'm already doing this on another forum so why not here? :D
Mine will be in "list format" simply because I'll cut/paste from that other site...

I started last night with Bewitched S6/E15 (1970) - Santa Comes to Visit and Stays and Stays. While I feel the episode would have been better with the original Darrin and Gladys it is better than most episodes from that initial season with Dick Sargent.

Nice start Bob.
I decided to start early, for the fact that a lot of Christmas stuff is already airing.
Also we can now add Thanksgiving stuff to our lists.
For Thanksgiving I plan on watching Plane, Trains and Automobiles
and the TV show Chuck has some Thanksgiving/Black Friday episodes.
Today I started with...
Night Court #609 "The Night Court Before Christmas"
Ross and Bull mistakenly donate stolen toys to a kids charity.
When the toy owner demands his toys back, Harry demands that Ross give up her information where she donated the toys to.
When Ross refuses to give up that information, she is thrown in jail.
An enjoyable episode. Also liked John Astin's character of Harry's mentally crazy step-father visiting him from a leave of absence from the mental ward.
Also Dan Fielding's sexual escapades during the holiday season are always a riot.

Ideas...
Easy Money-with the classic stationary bike scene
Prince of Egypt
The Christmas without Snow.
Trading Places
Coming to America
I have a few others out on my shelf. I'll see if there are any other ideas when I get home later.

Don't forget Gremlins. The events are triggered by a very poor choice of Christmas gift from father to son. :D
Will use this as a placeholder, though I'm not sure how many I'll watch. Lots of other stuff going on during this time of year.

Here are more that fit the theme either directly or by benefit of taking place during the holidays:
Batman Returns - Takes place during Christmas
Home for the Holidays - Thanksgiving
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - Thanksgiving
Holiday Inn - *all* the major holidays plus introduces Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" (White Christmas [1954] is an unofficial remake of this film - IMHO Holiday Inn is the superior version)
Christmas in Connecticut (watch the 1945 original with Barbara Stanwyck - not the 1992 TV remake)
It Happened on 5th Avenue
The Lemon Drop Kid (Bob Hope - introduces the classic Christmas song "Silver Bells")
The Bishop's Wife
March of the Wooden Soldiers
Pocketful of Miracles
The Apartment - Christmas
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - takes place during Christmas
1941 - Takes place following the Dec. 9th attack on Pearl Harbor and leads up to Christmas
Surviving Christmas
Die Hard - takes place during Christmas
Joyeux Noel - WWI tale of Christmas in the trenches
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - takes place during the Christmas Holiday

Rich Little's A Christmas Carol is among my most favs. It's now avail for purchase but better hurry. They usually run out fast and the price shoots up. (one note, I believe the official has a flaw that could effect playback on the bonus Robin Hood feature. But ACC plays just fine)
Dumb & Dumber has those scenes "where the water flows like wine" (hee hee) in Asssspen. Plus all the crazy spending... just feels like Christmas to me. I usually watch it.
I have others but forgot to list them while at home.

I just finished watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles on Blu-ray.
I always try and watch it right at this time, the Wednesday night that leads into Thanksgiving.
This is a movie I like starting with into the holiday season.
There is always a special place in my heart for this movie.
A movie the I'll admit makes me cry at the end. Don't know why.
One of my all time favorite comedies.
Even though I have to work today (which sucks) I'm going to watch a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, some Chuck And Community Thanksgiving episodes.

PTA has that effect on everybody with a heart.
Another on my shelf is It's a very merry Muppet's Christmas. Pretty good if you like Muppets. I'd never seen the king prawn Pepe before and I just about fell in the floor laughing at everything he said (or..they may have been Muppet's Wizard of Oz?? I don't know...). I still need to see Muppet Christmas Carol.

Here is what I watched on Thanksgiving.
TV SHOWS
Chuck #208 "Chuck Versus the Gravitron" Chuck's girlfriend Jill (Jordana Brewster) turns out to be a Fulcrum agent that is after the intersect.
Chuck is asked to use his relationship to get close to an agent known as "leader"
Chuck's sister Ellie prepares for Thanksgiving dinner as Captain Awesome's parents come into town.
The Nerd herd also guard the store Thanksgiving night so the Black Friday merchandise doesn't get stolen.
I like this episode just for Jordana Brewster. It doesn't feel so much like a Thanksgiving episode.
Not a strong episode but still fun.
New Girl #208 "Parents" Jess tries to "Parent Trap" her divorced parents(Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner)into getting together during Thanksgiving.
A funny episode. The edition of Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner as her parents are great. I'd like to see them return for a Christmas episode.
Bob's Burgers #305 "An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal" Mr Fischoeder, Bob's landlord (Kevin Kline) asks Bob and his family to stage a Thanksgiving dinner to make his ex jealous.
A very funny episode. Not as good as the Halloween episode but still very funny.
Bob gets drunk on absinthe and talks to his turkey, giving it its own personality.
H Jon Benjamin is a fantastic voice actor.
The kids also entertain me every time.
Two Charlie Brown Thanksgiving episodes
1) A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
2) This is America Charlie Brown
Both are classic peanuts specials. But I favor more for Charlie Brown Thanksgiving over the America special.
I just love snoopy serving the peanuts Thanksgiving dinner consisting of toast, popcorn, jelly beans and pretzels.
MOVIE
I did watch a horror New Years Eve movie.
Terror Train (1980)
While this may not be a great horror movie, it still has parts that I did enjoy.
It didn't have great killings. Which is a bummer.

Because my granddaughter (she'll be 6 in a couple of weeks) was soooo excited about watching "the parade" yesterday (she got up at 6:30 wanting to watch it and expecting it to already be on) we tuned it in for the first time in *years*. The "coverage" was simply horrible. They spent more time with worthless interviews and talking heads than actual parade coverage. There were *several* times they'd have some lame interview and you could see the parade in the background. My granddaughter wanted to know where the parade was due to the lack of true shots of the actual parade going by! She bailed after about an hour and the rest of us religated it to occasional attention. I hesitate to say "never" but it'll be a *very* cold day in July before I'll waste time watching another NBC telecast of a parade. I'm pretty sure that's what I said the *last* time we wasted time on one (the one we "watched" *years* ago)... I'd guess they 100% lost her as a future patron of the telecast due to the way it was handled.
