Please help with crossover query (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone,
Ive got Sony STR-DH810 amp, I have 2 tannoy sfx subs for it and recently just bought 6 cambridge minx min11 speakers and 1 minx21 to replace my old rubbish speakers, I need abit of help with regards to the crossover set up, on a website it tells me to put the minx's to 140hz and set to small, what do I set my sub to on the actual sub itself? There is a indicator on the back for films which its set to now but after I changed the crossover on the amp for the minx's the bass went away, could hardly hear it. Am I right putting the minx's cross at 140hz???? If so can you reccomend where to put my sub now or vice vercer

Hi Mike,

If you're using the crossover in the receiver (as you should) and setting the mains to "small" (again, as you should), then you should also:

1) Leave the crossover dial on the subwoofers themselves all the way to max (the receiver is handling the filtering, so you want the sub to just play anything that's sent to it)

2) Make sure the receiver knows you have a subwoofer connected to it. This is most likely why you're losing all low end - you set the crossover to route all low frequencies to the subwoofer, but unless you tell the receiver you actually connected a subwoofer, it won't send anything out. Check your receiver's manual and somewhere in the audio setup menus there should be an option to specify if you have a subwoofer or not.

Also, I would probably lower the crossover setting a bit - try 100 Hz instead. The top end of the subwoofers is at 140 and, really, you want a little bit of overlap between what gets sent to the subwoofer and what is sent to the mains.

The amp already knows I have 2 subs connected, the amp only gives me an option for speaker crossover not lfe, only the back of th sub itsself does that, thats why I need to know what to set the sub at etc

You don't set the sub for ANYTHING.
The receiver does it.
LFE is a "different animal" than subwoofer output. LFE is the "information", subwoofer is the "hardware".
Regardless, turn the crossover knob all the way up.
