Season finale. It was ok. I enjoyed setting everyone in motion to move in their lives. I like the tension with Marshal and Lily over Marshall's job. And I always enjoy a callback to Teddy Westside.

I didn't like the Robin and Barney arc. Her emotional story has been inconsistent. Several episodes ago, Ted was warning Barney that Robin wasn't as cool with being the guys-guy gal as she seemed...and now at the finale she's the perfect vision of a cigar-smoking, challenge-accepting woman.

Oh. And the "mother" was finally revealed. Huh.

I found it very frustrating. This would have made a good episode-before-the-season-finale episode, but it wasn't satisfying as the finale. There were definitely filler episodes this season that could have been excised so that this aired last week and the finale was the wedding. All season long Bays and Thomas have been saying the that season would ending with the wedding, because anything else would feel like a cheat. And instead, we end right before the finale.

I feel like the Mother reveal was a bone thrown to the audience since we didn't get anything else in the finale. I always expected the reveal of the Mother to be when Ted actually met the Mother, and I think I would have preferred that. Now maybe a lot of time and care went into casting Cristin Milioti and she's going to be terrific, but it sort of seems like the worst of both worlds: we don't get the emotional follow-through of meeting the Mother, and the producers don't take advantage of the summer hiatus to give casting the Mother the time such a momentous and built-up role deserved.

Ugh:
Final season of How I Met Your Mother “will tell the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever.”

So the Mother will be a series regular, but still probably won't meet Ted until the season finale. The whole season will be Barney and Robin's wedding weekend. And I'm getting serious Serendipity flashbacks with all of the near misses that will likely unfold.

If they're so confident in this casting, why not have Ted meet the mother in the season premiere and use the remaining episodes to actually explore their life together?

Just make sure you credit me for the idea when you make that movie. I want to make sure I get my residuals.   :D

I don't know how Milioti will do in the role, but she looks like a cross between Alyson Hannigan and Cher, which I find a little off-putting.

First of all, I don't think the entire next season Will take place during Barney and Robin's wedding. It sound like a leg-pulling comment to me.

What I think would be neat for the opening episode of next year - alter the stock footage of the kids (reverse the film?), and have Cristin do the narration. Maybe even have the title change for the episode - HIMYD

They have to cast someone who could put up with Bob Saget-Ted all these years until 2030. :D  And give her a crazy raspy voice from decades of smoking.

I was somewhat let down by the season finale, but surprised they revealed the mother.

Milioti played Johnny Sac's skinny daughter on The Sopranos. I remember they had his Rubenesque wife and both daughters visiting him in prison.

"CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler has now confirmed for TVLine that Season 9′s entire run will, in fact, span the wedding weekend and just the wedding weekend, as the comedy details 'how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does.'"

I finally watched the episode. I found the character development promising, especially for Ted, but knowing that the next season is going to take place over the wedding weekend, we're going to get a lot more of him not heeding Lily's advice to be careful about his feelings about Robin. OK! We get it!

The judgeship for Marshall seems a little random, not knowing what it takes for someone to be offered such a thing.

And I see the point about Robin being the "cool girl" one episode, and then not. I suspect we'll see more of that switching next season as she grapples with her impending nuptials.

So part of me is looking forward to seeing things get wrapped up, but think I may avoid the inevitable frustration by just watching the entire season in a binging session.

There was an entire episode earlier this season that built up to that.  It was part of the return of Brad plot.

I also felt like the finale would have been the perfect part 1 of a true finale...but I guess that's what happened when they got renewed.

But 24 episodes of a wedding?  Do we really need to change up the format for the last season?  Can't we just keep going until Ted's wedding?

I actually thought the Mother looks like a cross between Alyssa Milano and ... shoot, I can't remember the other person.  I actually had to check the credits, though.
