Glee - Season 4 (1 Viewer)

I was very interested to see how the series was going to split up its NYC and Lima storylines. Nothing innovative really, but enjoyable cutting back and forth for "A New York State of Mind.".

Several debuts tonight which were noteworthy and will look for impressive songs from them in the weeks ahead. The scene with Kurt and his dad made the hour (they're always special together, and Mike O'Malley is great).

As usual, Ryan Murphy laid on the mean a bit too thick with Kate Hudson's character (no shading at all).

In all, a good season opener.

It was ok, but as someone who enjoyed the first three seasons it just didn't feel right to me. Some of that's to be expected with the character transitions. I am not a Unique fan and hope he will not be in the cast all season. I like the lunch lady's daughter, and I liked Rachel's new New York friend. But none of the music choices were particularly inspired.

I enjoyed the transitional aspect, but I had no idea if Kurt and Rachel will be part of Glee for the entire season. (But I guess they will be part of Glee this season after all, looking at a few online articles).
Both new singers, Jake and Marley, have nice voices, look forward to hearing more from Marley.

Nothing very special for me in this week's episode. The music did nothing for me, and new character Marley's vocals were less impressive than last week and with her crush on the bad boy who's chosen someone else (for now), it looks like we're going to have a repeat of Rachel/Finn from season one.

I had very low expectations for this episode, because the first time they did a Britney theme it was one of the worst shows of that season - and all of her tolerable songs were already used. But I wound up enjoying it more than last week's - it was good to see Puck and Santana again, and I'm glad Rachel stood up for herself with Cassandra. And Heather Morris's deadpan delivery never fails to make me laugh, and she had several great lines.

That was on par with some of the great episodes from season 1. The whole Brittany as Britney was hilarious (attacking the reporter with the umbrella, almost shaving her hair off, and looking zonked out during the performance she was lip synching). Rachel's Fosse-esque number was just a touch under awesome, but it was a highlight (and pastiche of "Take Off With Us" from Fosse's All That Jazz). I laughed at more dialog in this episode than five or six episodes from last season combined. The premiere was an improvement from last season, but I thought this was a homerun. Brittany being her own narrator was a riot.

Also, I was giddy from the stellar Office episode I watch right before.

The one change I am not buying at all this season is Unique. After the series explored so well the ostracism and abuse that Kurt faced at McKinley, am I to believe that the social landscape has changed so completely that this kid could attend school in full drag and no one has an issue with it? That the school administration goes along with this? I get the message of tolerance in there, but the entire situation is ridiculous.

I actually thought that was Mercedes when he was talking to the new girl in the hallway. In fact, I said to my wife, "Did you notice that Mercedes actually kind of looks like Unique?" She was like, "you do realize that is Unique, right?"

It doesn't take an "entire school" to accept something. Sure Kurt paved the way. But Kurt did so with a group of friends. Maybe Unique didn't even have that at the prior school???
And, around here, most schools do not have a dresscode. Yeah, I'm in Indiana...but there are some HS that have allowed same sex couples at prom. The same rules apply. No "excessive PDA".
Why does it always seem the "issues occur" because 1 person has a problem with something and the other 100 people that it doesn't make any difference to don't just tell the 1 person to deal with it.

I'm finding that Glee is more entertaining when it's "breaking" songs rather than trying to work them in: "We Are Young," "It's Time" were better than a lot of the strict covers, although doing acoustic versions of Britney Spears tunes was refreshing.

Certainly more entertaining than last week's episode, but it seemed clear there was a somewhat desperate need to set up next week's "The Break Up" episode that they've been touting for the last six weeks.

I guess the song "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" brought back memories for Sarah Jessica Parker.

Best episode of the season thus far for me. There are few shows I loathe more than "Sex and the City," so I was surprised at how delightful I found SJP to be in this one - and I loved that they worked some 'Annie' into the makeover musical number.

I wonder how long Blaine is going to hold up the Kurt "torch" this season after the "not exactly a meltdown" after the election...
Prime example of the crap you start for yourself when you do things FOR someone else.
We've all been there though...we were all "idiot kids" once...

You know that whole "I know porn/smut when I see it"...
Apparently doesn't count when "heard"...
Besides I've met a few of them so-called "save yourself...from yourself types..."
They probably never heard it before.
Besides they wouldn't know what a good time was if it came and then wanted to sit on their face.

OUTSTANDING episode (OK, except for the "Left Behind" scene...)

It's good to see the writers using songs not just to advance the story but to TELL the story. Some of the best and most heartbreaking song choices since the first part of season one.

And am I to understand that there are no new episodes until NOVEMBER now?

Everyone stepped up his acting on this episode making for some truly heartbreaking moments. Darren Criss' variation on "Teenage Dream" was so very different from his Season 2 version and very well done.

It was a good transitional episode to go out on for a month due to the baseball playoffs.
