Ok now I got the save SMS pic thing. I was trying it while it was open to the pic but You have to do it while it is still small,in the message listof that person. There is an S beam, and android beam, wifi direct, Kies via wifi and all share. I guess I need to figure out what they all do. Also thanks for the tip on zedge and the sd cards, I'm in no hurry, yet.

If anyone is still here, I was looking at this charger with included extra battery. The extra is a 2300mah, the one in my Galaxy is 2100mah, does tis matter? http://www.amazon.co...49840939&sr=1-9

Probably won't notice much of a difference, but on the bright side, it's a regular sized battery so you won't need an extended back cover.

How did you manage to shatter the screen?

Shattered and usable or shattered and unusable? And what do you need to back up? There are programs that can back up MMS and call logs and pictures/media, but you would need to install them first.

If anyone is looking to extend their battery life and don't mind being tethered to an external battery (for watching a movie or listening to music while on an airplane), I found this nifty little battery on Amazon for $29.99:

Anker® Astro 5600mAh Backup External Battery Pack Charger with built-in Flashlight

I used this on a recent flight to Hawaii on my Samsung Galaxy S 4G (aka Samsung Galaxy Vibrant), and managed to watch 2 movies on my flight to Kona (from LAX) using the pack as my power source and still had a full-charge on my phone after landing, and three bars left on the battery pack.

Something fell on it. Screen seems very thin. Still works just has a big circle shatter on it with little pieces of the lass coming off. After having an iPhone for over four years I knew I could back up e entire thing using iTunes and just plug it in a restore a new phone. This one I have no clue if I need to back anything Up and or how I would get my settings or anything else onto a new phone.

No I have it in my cart but haven't gone through with the order yet. I have a gc that I need to find to add to the order. Will I be able to save setting and backup to that?

Install an app called mybackup pro, you will be able to back up your call logs, pictures, and MMS messages. You can backup apps as well, but they're all in the Play Store anyway. You can back up contacts and emails, but they should be in the cloud. Mybackup pro has a cloud option, but it's faster to backup to SD. The things you can't backup without root are your system settings and game saves. Check to see if Apex Launcher allows you to backup the home screen settings.

Hanson,

What would you recommend to backup everything (contacts to apps)
to the SD card?

I am going to move from the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy Note II in a few

weeks.  I want to be able to do a quick backup and restore from one

device to the other.

The one big weakness of Android is the lack of a good rootless backup solution (if you are rooted, Titanium Backup is about as good as iTunes for iOS backup). The problem is, a lot of app information is inaccessible without root, so you can't perform a soup to nuts backup.

Here's what you can backup and restore with MyBackup Pro:

1) Call logs

2) SMS history

3) Contacts and emails

4) Media files (pics, videos, etc)

5) Apps (but no data)

Then again, you can always re-download and install all of your apps from the Play Store and if your photos are already on a microSD card, you can just take it out and plug it into a new device. Using a file explorer, you can simply copy all of your media files to a microsd card manually.

A lot of my apps save settings in the cloud. If you use Gmail and sync all of your contacts, there's no need to back any of that up. The last time I had to restore from a device wipe, I mostly lost my Amazing Alex game save (I actually had a game save app that didn't work). This was a tablet, so I didn't need to backup Call logs and SMS.

I know that losing game saves is painful. But that's 99% of what get's lost if you aren't rooted. Most of the productivity apps I use have a cloud component, which I need to sync the data around devices and acts as an automatic backup.

Hanson,

I am with you.  Google cloud backs up my contacts/calendars, etc.

The reason I want APP backup is just so I don't have to reinstall everything again.

I want to bring up the backup program, hit RESTORE and have everything
look exactly as it did on the GS3.

Perhaps MYBACKUP Pro can accomplish most of that.

From everything I've read, there is no rootless way to restore your phone to a previous state.

Ordered a micro card. Posted Image Posted Image Now back to the phone stuff. In Nova launcher you can set up shortcuts by pressing a spot on the screen, press shortcuts and many options come up including Shortcuts to launch a direct link to a contact to call and a direct link right to a person to send a text to. I love that one. You can put a shortcut to open the Navigation to always show you directions to a set location such as our home. So no matter where you are you can press the button and the maps will open up and show you the way home. Under Nova actions after a press and hold on the screen are more action apps. Since you can have many pages that Nova lets you have you can now put a jump to a specific page button. A "recent apps" button which is the action that shows you all the apps you currently have open or running. Same as holding a long press on the main home button. There's a toggle dock button and a toggle notification bar button, if you want to hide the notification bar on top.
