I don't know if that is the correct term, but I recently did a search on Amazon for classic films on Blu-Ray and was astonished at what titles came up. I was wondering if these listings reflect some official hint from the studio, or just fans wishful thinking...Among the films, which all would be must buys for me include:
THE BIG SLEEP
YANKEE DOODLE DANDY
KEY LARGO
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
TOP HAT
JEZEBEL
MILDRED PIERCE
THE INFORMER
and many others.....
CAPTAIN BLOOD
THE SEA HAWK
TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT
HIGH SIERRA
SERGEANT YORK
MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN
DANGEROUS
WATCH ON THE RHINE
CIMARRON (1931)
MR. SMITHE GOES TO WASHINGTON
YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU
IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
BORN YESTERDAY (1950)
ALL THE KING'S MEN (1949)
THE LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA
A LETTER TO THREE WIVES

Some of those titles are included in Warner's announced plans for 2013's 90th Anniversary celebration...wouldn't surprise me if the entire list of placeholders was passed on by the studio...

lukejosephchung - how do you know that?
One of Warner's executives announced on another website that FIVE of their catalog's Best Picture Oscar titles previously unreleased on blu-ray were being prepped for next year's 90th Anniversary..."Around The World In 80 Days" was among them. Every one of the titles listed as Amazon placeholders are Warner catalog titles currently unavailable on BD. The exec also said they were planning extensive previously unreleased BD catalog titles to be released throughout 2013, so the list you gave above seems to tie into their 90th Anniversary celebration.

They've also had my 2 most-wanted TV shows on Blu-ray (Seinfeld & Arrested Development) listed for years, with no sign whatsoever they're in the pipeline...

I guess there's a chance we could see Arrested Development next year in time for the new series, but the placeholder's been there for at least 4 years.

Of course seeing placeholders for such TV series as FATHER KNOWS BEST and ADAM-12 has me a bit worried on the veracity of these listings, but since I am sure they are gathered by Amazon and not by fans, I am still hopeful.

Every fews years or so this question pops up and as Oliver said it doesn't mean anything and is not a list of movies
that are soon to be released.
Also it has no bearing on any studio on what they plan to release, i have no proof but
I doubt very much that they(studios) even look to see who is signing up for those notifications.

Never thought of that. Maybe the studios leak these titles to see what interest there is in a particular title. I certainly hit the "notify when announced" button.
