John,   I'm with you.   I hear the 2009 models are very difficult to exchange out for an SSD.   I am waiting to see what Apple offers.  For instance, when the Retina Macbook Pro was introduced, it was a very nominal upgrade charge from the 256 SSD to the 512.   You think there would be someone in my area who is authorized to open up a 2009 Macbook and install an SSD?  The Apple Store might, but I bet it would cost quite a bit.

Ron, you might just do a search for "apple authorized service" in your area. There is one locally for me who charges a flat $40 to install hardware in anything. I guess the trick on SSD is if they offer it as a standard feature. Buying an iMac from Apple with a 256GB SSD comes with a $600 surcharge. Also, all the current iMacs have a second, empty drive bay, so you can add the SSD and keep the standard HD.

Ron, I just remembered that some iMacs, and probably yours, don't react nicely to having a non-Apple drive installed. I've read reports of their fans defaulting to full speed, all the time when that is done.

John,   Yeah, I figured as much.  Trust me, I researched it.   There are no authorized service places even remotely to my area.   Will wait and see if there is an announcement forthcoming.   Thank you for your help!!!

No way in heck are they refreshing the 10"ipad. That screenshot is so wrong as to not even be worth considering.

A new 21.5" iMac sometime like next week would make me very happy. I know it's been over a month since standard prices on the current model dropped, so I really am hoping for something soon.

Sam, NewEgg is offering $50 off any iPad3, so, I'm thinking you are wrong about there not being a refresh soon.

4" iphones? Low margin Ipad mini? Refeshes ipad3? Sounds like a lot of sugar water coming out of Cupertino these days.

Why would Apple refresh the 21.5" and 27" iMacs at different times, unless there was some major change (Retina Display on some models?) constraining availability? That timeline doesn't make sense.

2009 iMacs (like Ron's) don't have a spare SSD bay. Nor do they have Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 or eSATA (for adding external SSDs). If you added a SSD by replacing the main hard drive (which might void the few months left on an AppleCare warranty), there would be the issue you mention regarding the hard drive temperature sensor cable. On the other hand, 2009 iMacs have the option to run Snow Leopard. The Target Display feature on the 27-inch 2009 models works with any suitable MiniDisplayPort source, not just Thunderbolt-equipped source devices. So older can sometimes be better.

The article associated with the graphic, which Ron linked in the post, explains that.

Oh, it has that same chart?  Then it's relying on that?   Okay...didn't look further than the short blurb on CultofMac.   Personally, I would bet we will see a new iMac, probably to be announced in October.  That's my bet.

I think its from the same air headed analyst but I haven't dug into the back story because I believe it to be fluff and rumors based on old rumors based on hopes and dreams and not facts or legit leaks.

The latest rumor is that new iMacs will be released tomorrow, September 19th.

Not putting much faith into that rumor, but certainly one could hope....

I hope you are right. I've been thinking about it, it makes sense for the new machines to be in stock when 8 million people buy new iPhones and if this mini ipad surfaces next month, not after. But it also adds to the stress of the store and the manufacturing having two let alone three big transitions at once. This probably belongs in the iMac not the MBP thread tho! Can you move both your and my post there?
