The Way West will be released on BRD in Germany at the end of September by Koch Media. I'll be interested to learn what this looks like. I saw The Way West when it first was released in theaters and then it looked really good. I was shocked to learn later that the spectacular night storm scene was created by Albert Whitlock and that the scene was photographed in broad daylight under blue skies!

The Germans do tend to get it right. Haven't a one in my collection with those forced subtitles that the French are so fond of. THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE and EXODUS are two I'm presently ordering, as well.

Please let us know what Exodus looks like. I want to dump my DVD from a great height! It's garbage!

I just viewed the The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance BRD from Germany. I thought the video and audio presentation was excellent. However, there aren't any bonus material and the cost to purchase this was 19.01 from Amazon.

I've just received a batch of European blu-rays for those interested:
THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (France) Quality high-definition scan of the latest edition Paramount print with no extras and unforced subtitles. All region International release.
THE SEVEN UPS (Germany) Quality high-definition scan of the latest Fox print with making of and trailers; no forced subtitles; English subtitle option. All region International release.
THE LAST WAVE (DIE LETZTE FLUT) (Germany) Quality high-definition scan with unforced subtitles and the same stereo soundtrack as the Criterion dvd, but in DTS-HD 5.1. Region B
O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE (FUNF PERLEN) (Germany) Quality high-definition scan of the latest Fox print without forced subtitles and same extras as US Fox dvd. All region International release.
KULL THE CONQUEROR (DER EROBERER) (Germany) Quality high-definition scan from Universal; no subtitles with English and German DTS-HD six track audio. US extras with making of and Interview. Region B.
THE 13TH WARRIOR (LE 13EME GUERRIER) (France) Quality high-definition scan with unforced French subtitles. An hour-long documentary is in HD English with forced French subtitles. It's a deluxe slipcased edition with nice French booklet and mini lobby cards. Region B. I highly recommend this package for fans of the film.
THE BOUNTY (France) Quality high-definition scan with unforced French subtitles. The English soundtrack is only in Dolby Stereo 2-track matrixed surround (but is excellent); there's a French soundtrack in Dolby 5.1.
THE LONG HOT SUMMER (Germany) Quality high-definition scan of the latest Fox print with US DVD extras. No forced subtitles, but sadly both the English and German soundtracks are in DTS-HD 2-track Monaural. All region International release. There is a French version of this, but I don't know if subtitles are unforced and if it's in stereo.
On order:
EXODUS on blu-ray from Germany is on it's way, and I've heard it doesn't have the forced subtitles that the French version had.
LE CROCIATE (KINGDOM OF HEAVEN) from Italy (Medusa blu-ray, as opposed to the Fox blu-ray version) is also on it's way because it includes the director's roadshow version with overture and intermission music.
MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION (MAGNIFICA OSSESSIONE) from Italy and hopefully a high-definition scan of the Criterion print without any forced subtitles.

Midnight Lace will be released in Germany on Blu-ray by Universal in February. I hope Universal do not DNR this film into the dust. Midnight Lace has one hell of a cast: Doris Day, Rex Harrison and Myrna Loy. Talk about star power!
I might well buy this disc.

The Rains Of Ranchipur. The price dipped to nine euros so I ordered it: what a great looking picture (probably the same as Twilight Time's), & a great sounding stereo track (the poor Germans just get mono). I hope they release a few more Fox catalogue titles.

Robin9 : I have had the Blu-ray of Midnight Lace in my Amazon.de basket but having read the (few) reviews it doesn't appear to be a good transfer. I am hoping for more information before I reconsider.

I have recently received Blu-rays of Graf Spee (Battle of the River Plate) and Against all Flags, both transfers are of a very high picture quality. The Graf Spee was photographed in VistaVision and an extra on the disc shows the restoration comparison. Both titles highly recommended.

Colossus Of Rhodes, The.jpg

The Colossus Of Rhodes is now available on blu-ray in Germany and Amazon Germany has this on offer for a mere 4.97 Euros! The comments from customers suggest that the picture quality is quite good but deteriorates towards the end of the film.

At that bargain price, I'll order this when I next buy from Amazon Germany.

Does it have the English dub?

EDIT; apparently not...
Oh no! Not another one! I'm becoming increasingly annoyed at this stupid trick European discs play: every language except English!

Thanks for the warning. I hadn't noticed that.

Na, still cheap. 9.48 euro from Amazon.de & 6.46 euro new from a Marketplace seller. I see they have another one there for over 22 euro, that must have been the one you were looking at, ignore it! It's about time Germany released a few more Fox catalogue titles.

Thank you for that. Amazon Germany sent me an email listing only the higher priced disc. Devious! I've ordered the E9.48 version!

Yup, & it will include my fave, The Pit & The Pendulum! But I won't be ordering it, p&p (very expensive from America these days) plus custom charges will make it very expensive, & I don't buy region A, as I don't want to be stuck with having to have a multi-region player. I have The Haunted Palace from Germany & will order The Masque Of The Red Death (rotten cover & all!) & Fall Of The House Of Usher from Arrow, & I'm sure the others will get released by the end of the year.
