And we also have on Blu the lesser of the super comedy quartet, THOSE DARING YOUNG MEN IN THEIR JAUNTY JALOPIES [Monte Carlo or Bust), although the transfer Paramount provided wasn't too good and the sound was just stereo and I don't think in high resolution. Totally agree. I don't want to overly knock MAG MEN which I did enjoy on its first release but it hasn't stood the test of time well. I find GREAT RACE far more entertaining. It has a much more starry, talented and attractive cast and has more of a big budget appearance. It looked fabulous in Cinerama. In comparison, MAG MEN has a much more cheaper look about it (in fact the budget was half that of GREAT RACE)Billy Batson said:
The film had the misfortune to be released the same year as Doctor Zhivago (which won Best Costume Design), but Edith Head's clothes for Natalie (plus the hilarious, sometimes elaborate outfits that Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis don during the film) would surely have won in another year. Head was actually nominated for another Wood/WB film that year - Inside Daisy Clover rather than The Great Race.
John - I assumed that THE GREAT RACE was a genuine 70mm film when I first saw it in Cinerama at the London Coliseum. I was surprised to read years later that it was a blow up. The featurette with the DVD clearly shows the cameras in use so someone should know what type of cameras they are!john a hunter said:
