I use Facebook to log in to Kickstarter. Is my login compromised?

No. As a precaution we reset all Facebook login credentials. Facebook users can simply reconnect when they come to Kickstarter.

Well that's convenient!

So Neil Young launched his PONO hi-rez music player yesterday, and has already hit 2million (probably by the time you read this anyway...) on the $800,000 goal. I've not bit yet, but I probably will since I never did by a MP3 player, I typically use just my cell phone. Completely lossless music that sounds like a studio master is awful tempting though.

I personally believe that 98% of the people won't be able to hear, let alone appreciate, the difference, but I wish em all well.

Spec wise I'd agree with you. Having listened to his remastered album Harvest on cd and comparing tracks to the hirez audio on the archives bluray though, and there is a noticeable difference. The bluray sounds like vinyl (which I also have of the remastered harvest.... ugh). And I don't have the greatest rig in the world, I did the comparison myself with a Sharp theater in a box set up. It's not a dramatic difference that would indicate different mixes, but subtlety where the hirez sounds more pure. The Cd sounds fine, but the bluray/vinyl sounds better.

I don't THINK I'm fooling myself!

As someone who can tell the difference, but only when I'm paying careful attention, I absolutely agree with you. And it doesn't include headphones, so you'd need an expensive pair to hear much difference at any rate.

Also, $300 for a player with only 128GB of storage? At those ludicrous data rates, that's not a lot of music. (I'm sorry; if you're enough of an audiophile to care about this product, you're going to own a LOT of music!) Of course, from the looks of the interface, navigating a large library appears to be a huge PITA anyway. And the expected price of music is $15-$25 per album, which ain't exactly cheap either.

I like the idea of the SD card external memory. They are cheap...and at "400 songs each"...I don't see the issue. The grand part, you don't have to use the Pono as the "bridge". If your computer (how many don't?) can load to SD card...so be it. Pono, as far as I'd care, could stay in the car.

The car is the only place I'd use it. And yes...my car stereo makes use of hi-res audio(it ins't OEM garbage).

If I understand the quote -if it is as stated "DRM free" - it will fail pretty fast

"It sounds boutique, or like it was based on an already dated feeling iTunes model (even if the files are DRM-free),"

at http://motherboard.v...therboardCanada

If it can be hooked directly to my AVR or the SD cards ripped to a USB stick & plugged in to AVR - then I would get it.

Some lossless format HAS to come out to replace the dreadful CD music format

& HD SQ reissues on BR of most music is sure slow for some strange reason...

SACD & DVD-A are also failing/failed in that regard

Can't wait to resurrect my vinyl collection (hopefully soon)

Regards,

Doug

Yeah it funded in less than 12 hours.

I totally disagree with this, BTW:

http://www.washingto...ow-kickstarter/

Reading Rainbow is about teaching kids to LOVE reading as much or more as it is about giving them the basic skills to read.  That's a noble goal but don't slag it because RR isn't doing that as much as it could.  Sheesh.
