Who here is a Kickstarter fan?
http://www.kickstarter.com/
http://www.kickstarter.com/discover
http://www.kickstarter.com/blog
I'm on track to back my 30th project this week. The one I've got the most hope for is run by our own Todd Erwin:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1868006037/the-talbert-terror-principal-photography
Ouya just shattered all Kickstarter records and pulled in 2 million dollars in backing (more than double their $950k goal!) in just one day:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console
Want to learn how to use crowdfunding? There's a book about Kickstarter ON Kickstarter!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/glennf/crowdfunding-a-guide-to-what-works-and-why
But I've got a bunch more in the pipe too:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1342319572/the-nifty-minidrive
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/575109064/penny-arcade-sells-out
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitilus/al-skyjacker
And a billion I'm waiting for my rewards on:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/260688528/clang
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madgod/phil-tippetts-mad-god
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1067367405/pinball-arcade-the-twilight-zone
I usually do things around the $25 level, but the most I've ever spent was on Wasteland 2, the sequel to my favorite game of all time:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2
Why did I spend so much? So I get to be a CHARACTER in the game! HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT?!?!?!
Please post the ones you guys find and are tempted to join and/or inspired by!

I've backed a few boardgame projects. Just received the first one the other day, in fact.
That Ouya looks pretty interesting, and now it's over $3 million in funding. Too bad I don't have enough time to play the games I already own!

I hadn't seen that Cthulhu-opoly, but it looks like a hoot!
D-Day Dice ($171,805 pledged of $13,000 goal!) just arrived yesterday, and boy does it look great. It's come a very long way from the free downloadable version (which you can still get).

That one looks way too complicated for my tastes but like a beautiful set.
That's why I started this thread tho, HTF posters seem to have similar tastes but varied interests, so if you guys get excited by KS programs or are personally involved with one (ala Todd) PLEASE keep us all posted!
New today:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hiddenpath/defense-grid-2
I love the original and heartily recommend it. If you back it they will send you a code for the original before funding takes place! I've already gotten my code and it's sitting there, so if you are on the fence and have a steam account and want to try it out send me a PM and I'll give it to the first HTFer who is interested.
HTF fans are sure to dig this one:

BTW it finally happened to me yesterday: I hit so many kickstarters that I had to start a new gmail account to monitor them all. I just wish there was a way to easily forward all my old ones to the new account. There is supposed to be a way using filters but it didn't work for me. Boo =(

I suddenly remembered last night that as an early supporter I got to put a dedication to my great-uncle (a WWII vet) in the D-Day Dice rulebook. There it was! Very cool. He's still with us, although his eyesight is very bad. The rest of the family will get a kick out of it. :)
The mechanics of the game are really very simple. They just added a million different maps and cards and things for variety.

Three interesting and divergent views of the Kickstarter phenom:
http://blogs.reuters.com/felix-salmon/2012/07/19/is-kickstarter-selling-dreams/
http://www.fastcompany.com/1843007/kickstarter-fundraising-or-a-new-kind-of-entertainment
http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/the-reality-of-the-ouya-console-doesnt-match-the-hype-why-you-should-be-ske
What if Kickstarter is more about the experience of kickstarting than it is about the finished products? When you fund something like OUYA, you’re not pre-ordering a new console that will be made and marketed, you’re buying a ticket on the ride, reserving a front-row seat to the process and endorsing an idea. It’s a Like button attached to your wallet.
If kickstarting is wrong I don't wanna be right.

Supporting this one on principal, not that I need the reward:

I don't see anything wrong with that. LIke all businesses, I bet a lot of these fail. But you know what? If people can vote with their cell phone minutes for some singer, what's wrong with voting with a few bucks to back SCIENCE or a Good Idea? Why not bring sexy back to the country that has always been for ingenuity and the inventive spirit? Someone once told me this: Falling flat on your face means you made an effort.. and you're now 5'9" closer to then you were before you tried

I tend to think crowd-funding is a great development. It leads to the democratization of ideas and products and removes barriers to entrepreneurship. I've only backed one so far: Pebble (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/597507018/pebble-e-paper-watch-for-iphone-and-android?ref=live) and have enjoyed following its development.

I am too. In fact, I actually think it limits developers a little more than it should.
