What sad news.

Many of us had the chance to meet and speak with Ernest

a few years back during EMA in 2007.  Check out the photos.

Despite the fact he scolded me for mentioning I would post

video I was taking of him on the Internet, I thought he was an

extremely sweet individual.  He had great stories to tell.

Ron,

Agreed, he was one of the highlights of that week. He was a great actor and he seemed like a great guy.

What sad news. It definitely was a treat hearing him speak to us at EMA, and then catching him on his scooter in the hallway. We should all age so well and live such a full life.

One of my favorite actors of all-time.  A homeboy from Connecticut.  Who would've thought that as a big guy back in the day, he would outlive most of his contemporaries at 95 years of age.  Excellent as a villian or good guy.

In addition to his more well-known film and TV work, he had a really fun appearance on The Simpsons.

Truly saddened about this. He was a GIANT and it was an absolute honor to meet him and have him tell us tales. As far as I can tell, he was the last living member of the cast of From Here To Eternity.

Thanks for the wonderful photos! An incredible career. He was working very regularly through the end of last year. In this clip, Mr. Borgnine, then 91 years old, revealed the secret of his longevity:

He did good. 95 is good. Marty was wonderful. I loved him in that working with Frank Sutton. A part of a great ensemble cast in Flight of the Phoenix. Don't forget that Little House episode with him on the mountain. Among the best of that series.

I forgot about that great episode and the amount of discussion it generated as to whether Jonathan was a mountain man or a more angelic being.

It does leave that open. I'm not the most religious person, but I'd definitely lean towards him being from above. But like a good Twilight Zone episode, it doesn't say either way and leaves you thinking. :)
