Color me impressed. I figured that The Birds, Vertigo and maybe Rear Window would come out this year but I never thought Universal would release all of their Hitchcock movies (and one Warners title) at once. I can even let it slide that I'll have two copies of North By Northwest and Psycho. I look forward to reading three months of posts fretting about Universal's treatment of this set.

This is so exciting!  I'll also let it slide on the repeats of Psycho and North By Northwest.

As I already have Psycho and North by Northwest, I will patiently wait to get the other titles I want (Rope, Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds, Frenzy) individually. But very, very nice in general.

"And now the reprimand, from an American critic. He reproaches me for using film as a sacred & lasting medium, like a painting or a book. He does not believe that filmmaking is an inferior art, but he believes, and quite rightly, that a reel goes quickly, that the public are looking above all for relaxation, that film is fragile and that it is pretentious to express the power of one's soul by such ephemeral and delicate means, that Charlie Chaplin's or Buster Keaton's first films can only be seen on very rare and badly spoiled prints. I add that the cinema is making daily progress and that eventually films that we consider marvelous today will soon be forgotten because of new dimensions & colour. This is true. But for 4 weeks this film [The Blood of a Poet] has been shown to audiences that have been so attentive, so eager & so warm, that I wonder after all there is not an anonymous public who are looking for more than relaxation in the cinema." - Jean Cocteau, 1932

I'm excited but cautiously so. With Universal's VERY spotty QC track record on catalog Blu-ray releases, I'll wait until the reviews come in before buying. Let's hope they do RIGHT by these films.

Careful man, there's a beverage here!

If "The Man Who Knew Too Much" looks good then I'll have faith in the set. No word if the original Mono is included for Vertigo as well, but I'd assume it will be. Hope RAH is in the loop with the titles he worked on, but again knowing Universal not holding my breath.

 Unless you have some kind of inside track on The Man Who Knew Too Much, you won't need faith because you'll find out about all of the movies at the same time.

I'll probably skip this set and wait for single releases. Of the 15 titles, I already own one (North By Northwest), and really only want four of the others (Shadow Of A Doubt, Trouble With Harry, Rear Window, and Frenzy) Its too bad, as long as they were going outside their own studio, that Foreign Correspondent, Strangers On A Train, or Young And Innocent couldn't have been included. I suspect the deal with Warner for North by Northwest was close to a straight-up trade for Universal allowing Spartacus in Warner's Kubrick box last year.

No, I just mean that it's the worst looking one of the bunch and most in need of help. If it is done well then I am less worried about the others - does that make sense?

This is great news and I don’t mind the double dip on two films. I haven’t sat down and figured the price per film average, but it seems to be a good price of all these films. Saying that, I do have some concerns regarding this set in light of some of the catalog titles Universal has released to Blu. ** I would think it would be unreasonable, (but one can hope) to expect all these films to be scanned and go through a major clean-up, color timing, etc. But I hope they all get Hi Def sound, even the older titles. ** Based on my memory of the standard Hitch set from Universal, I would imagine SABOTEUR and SHADOW OF A DOUBT to look and sound pretty good just by doing a hi def transfer, which I’m sure they have, but probably some years ago. ** I would think the Paramount’s (and WB “Rope”) titles need the most work to look sensational on Blu Ray. Although Paramount still has stereo music stems for most of the Hitch Paramount films, I doubt we will get a remix like N by NW had. But it would be nice as an option. ** I wonder too if THE BIRDS, with all the optical work, can and will be improved for this release. I would think that one would have to be scanned to do any major fixes. Again, my only worry is since they are being put out in a big bundle at a great price, how much effort is being put into these films to really shine on BluRay? No matter, I will be ordering this before any reviews come out.

Well I do mind the double dip. They are bound to put these out individually and that's how I plan to get them.

OMG, it looks like it will fit on my normal shelves!! I'm so happy, I think I need to break out the banana:

Now, wouldn't it be cool if we get a big Uni Monsters box like this as well???

Even cooler will be if they don't muck up the transfers!!!

Three truths about movies, as noted by Roger Ebert:

* It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

* No good movie is too long, and no bad movie is short enough.

* No good movie is depressing, all bad movies are depressing.

I didn't see any information about price in the press release, and a quick Google search yields none either. Did I miss something?

Are those....cardboard sleeves? Color me disappointed if so. Still, I'll probably buy it even though I have to double dip on North By Northwest

I suspect the deal with Warner for North by Northwest was close to a straight-up trade for Universal allowing Spartacus in Warner's Kubrick box last year.

Looks like WB got the raw deal ;)

According to ClassicFlix, the retail price is $299.98 and they are offering it for $229.99, although I bet Amazon will have it a bit cheaper. http://www.classicfl...in-p-12671.html

Thanks for the link. Not a bad price, but hopefully it will dip lower once more retailers put it up for pre-order. I'm more concerned about the transfers than the cost though.
