SAN JOSE, Calif. June 7, 2012 NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a global

networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service

providers, today announced the NETGEAR NeoTVTM Pro HD Streaming Player (NTV200S), the

latest addition to the NETGEAR NeoTV streaming player family of products. NeoTV Pro offers

high quality streaming content from a wide variety of online channels and is the world’s first

streaming player to offer wireless display capability using Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi).

With the NeoTV Pro, users can choose from a large selection of streaming movies, TV shows

others, and instantly stream it to their TVs in up to full 1080p HD and surround sound from the

comfort of their living room. And now, for customers that are not satisfied with hundreds of

streaming channels but want the worldwide web on the big screen, the NeoTV Pro enables

consumers to wirelessly display virtually any type of content from an Intel WiDi laptop to a TV,

including sport broadcasts that are only online, movies, music, photos and any Internet site.1

NETGEAR NeoTV Pro easily connects to the Internet via built-in high-speed 300 Mbps WiFi,

which can deliver smooth streaming at 1080p HD video resolution, or wired through an Ethernet

Apple® iPhone®, iPad®, iPod® Touch or Android® smartphone or tablet into a high-end touch

screen remote control. Available free from Apple's App Store and Google® Play, the remote

control app makes navigating movies, TV shows, songs and videos on NeoTV Pro simple and

intuitive. For those without a smartphone, the NeoTV Pro Streaming Player comes with a regular

remote control.

NETGEAR also announced the addition of four new streaming channels available on all NeoTV

streaming players starting in June. One of the new channels, SpiritClips, provides NeoTV users

with a library of wholesome and engaging Hallmark Hall of Fame® feature films, available on-

demand.

I just recently picked up a new laptop with WiDi 2.0 to replace my not even 3 year old HP dv4 that I purchased specifically for HDMI output to my home theater that never worked correctly despite sending it back for a motherboard replacement. It flickered from the word go and I was never able to get it to work right.
The new Toshiba seems to be rock solid with HDMI output directly. The WiDi has had a few glitches to say the least so far. I originally purchased the PTV2000 to facilitate the WiDi and then saw this announcement elsewhere and returned it in favor of the NTV200S to get the streaming media functionality that seemed a little less than impressive on my Panasonic DMP-BD655K which is clunky at best, but does has done Netflix for me at least.
The NTV200S is head and shoulders above my Panasonic’s functionality as a streaming device. You might not expect much, but the added wireless adapter to enable the Viera implementation cost ¾ what the NTV200S did and there is no comparison. It gave me Netflix directly on one of my precious HDMI ports though; so, it is what it is I suppose and I only purchased the dongle as an experiment in streaming media anyway. Lesson learned.
I’m not going to be too critical of the WiDi just yet until I get a new HDMI cable in, but so far it has been less impressive than the PTV2000 – which wasn’t perfect. I’ll follow up when I get in a new HDMI cable and see if that helps (it may have contributed to that HP’s issues, but it had issues with any cable – I’m being optimistic). There has already been one firmware or software upgrade on it in the last week – so, they are fixing issues at least I suppose.
I’m really not very well versed in these streaming devices. Certainly not well enough to comment how this stacks up to the competition, Roku, etc. The streaming functions seem to be very well implemented though. I obviously was primarily concerned with WiDi connectivity and not the streaming functions, but thrilled to have an option that provides both. Hopefully the WiDi functionality will improve.
I didn’t reference this site before purchasing my laptop and this NTV200S. I’ll look through and see what others have experienced and see if that provides context to my experience. It’s fairly cutting edge I suppose – so, I’m accepting the issues and expect to see if they don’t get ironed out with firmware upgrades. My DVR from Dish was a real turd before they ironed out the software issues on it too – so, I’m hopeful.

I have hundreds of videos on my server from my wedding and flower shows and birthdays. Can I use this product to stream from my server to other devices? I can seem to find anything about that function??
In order for devices like this to be appealing they must stream items I own that are on my home server otherwise it's a no go.

Check out what WiDi does and see if that doesn’t satisfy what you are looking for possibly. I prefer to have a laptop on my coffee table anyway and have all the functionality it provides for internet searching, etc. WiDi lets me have a wireless transmission to my television that lets me surf the web with the far more functional interface of the laptop vs whatever clunky implementation of Youtube, etc that you might find in a Roku or similar.
My big thing is music videos and I have a decent collection of them. Yes, you can stream off a server to your television through a laptop or directly from your laptop – that is what I do with mine. Movies would be no different.

Thanks Jason! This may be just what I was looking for. I'm going to buy one this next week and hopefully it's easy to setup for this semi techie gal (fingers crossed). :)

You have to have a laptop that does Widi first to do what I am doing; hence my new purchase. They have Widi 2.0 out now as well – which has more features. 3.0 is coming out this year. It’s an Intel technology; the i3, i5, etc. processors have it built in.
I have 2.0 on mine – like I said, it’s a little buggy, but it might be the hdmi cord to some degree.

Minor update; it hit me this morning after unsuccessfully attempting to get the Vudu Dolby Digital demo to function – that optical output is actually more of a feature than I initially believed. I have been running optical output from my television to my Onkyo Receiver with a hardwire HDMI from my laptop and it provided digital audio at least, but I assume HDMI is blocked from passing through Dobly or my television doesn’t pass through – whatever.
It dawned on me this morning to skip the television and plug straight into the Netgear and it works. Now getting 5.1 through internet streaming – which is pretty sweet! I think the audio of my laptop streaming is improved as well if only by a small margin. Stands to reason that eliminating the television passing through might only stand to benefit the audio even if it is all digital.
New HDMI cable should be here today. Will report back on WiDi after testing it out thoroughly. Love this new device! Hopefully the WiDi will not be a weak link.

Quick update on my experience; the new cable seems to have improved the experience – at least it doesn’t seem to be as problematic. I wouldn’t think a HDMI cable would make a difference, but maybe so. Anyway, I am still having some issues with WiDi audio sync and it occasionally freezes up and drops the connection. I can’t tell if it is on the computer side or device side, but I do occasionally have to unplug the device to get it to straighten out.
Otherwise this thing is super cool! The Netflix interface is by far superior to my other smart device that I was using. The optical audio output outputs Dolby as advertised from Vudu and I am eager to try that out. Looking for a movie to rent or purchase to give it a test drive. Hoping I might find suggestions on here for a good reference movie on Vudu that lets whatever it has to offer shine.

I’ve seen an updated driver laptop side and on the Netgear side so far and the stability seems improved. In fact, I’m not so sure that the computer side doesn’t lock up more than the Netgear side. The little Netgear does seem to have issues with displaying upon power up occasionally that I can only remedy by unplugging it and plugging it back in, but again, I can’t say that it’s not my television. I don’t have issues with any other devices like that though.
The app for the iPhone that goes with this thing is very, very cool! Very handy for navigating YouTube, etc. I find typing on the iPhone to be much easier than using the remote to peck out searches, etc.
I’m very pleased despite the bugs. By far a better ‘smart’ device than anything else I have had to date and the Widi 2.0 is super cool!
