Looks like the Universal Hitchcock blu-ray releases are coming Sept 5th (at least in Finland). This is good news for the box set coming to the U.S. Links fixed. http://www.blurayste...ing-in-finland/ http://www.blurayste...ase-in-finland/

Happy indication for me that we may see individual releases.

But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another.--Irving Townsend

I know im being impatient, but good grief! im tired of reading all the Hitchcock blurays going to other countries! Its getting rediculous and maybe im wrong but not a sniff of talk about any of these releases in the good ole U.S.A, just rumors and pre-order dates from a year ago. geesh!!

I agree with you completely -- Many classic American films get much more attention in other countries than they seem to get here. So many films have been released in Europe that have yet to see the light of day in this country. We get partial box sets and the UK and France, etc. get complete (or nearly complete) ones --one example is the terrific W.C. Fields box from England. It had almost all of his sound features in one box, while here, we got two separate boxes that didn't even have all the content of the single British one. And now, when we do get the films here, they are often DVD-R's or they are licensed to other labels. Let's face it, more than anywhere else, the bottom-line rules here in the USA - our film heritage counts for little in the corporate world. I give thanks to the exceptions to this rule - but there aren't enough of them.

I have no interest in seeing any of these titles until they are really most excellently done, and I will wait a very long time for that. Remark: it would help if the titles to threads like this could include something like "in Finland". It is rather tiresome to keep getting excited about a release and then, upon reading the actual post, find out that it is not a US release.

US from major studios releases are generally announced 2 months before release, so it may be until mid-July before the US announcement. European countries generally get their announcements earlier. When all is said and done they usually come get released within a week of each other.

"And now the reprimand, from an American critic. He reproaches me for using film as a sacred & lasting medium, like a painting or a book. He does not believe that filmmaking is an inferior art, but he believes, and quite rightly, that a reel goes quickly, that the public are looking above all for relaxation, that film is fragile and that it is pretentious to express the power of one's soul by such ephemeral and delicate means, that Charlie Chaplin's or Buster Keaton's first films can only be seen on very rare and badly spoiled prints. I add that the cinema is making daily progress and that eventually films that we consider marvelous today will soon be forgotten because of new dimensions & colour. This is true. But for 4 weeks this film [The Blood of a Poet] has been shown to audiences that have been so attentive, so eager & so warm, that I wonder after all there is not an anonymous public who are looking for more than relaxation in the cinema." - Jean Cocteau, 1932

Done!

Thanks for the fix! I have several BD's from Sweden and Norway that state Region B on them, yet they play fine on my U.S. player. No guarantee, of course.

There are many examples of superior versions of U.S. films released outside the U.S. What irks me the most is when places like Australia (or Finland) get stuff long before we do. In many cases they also get better packaging. Hollywood would just as well send out discs in paper sleeves if they thought they could get away with it.
