Oh yeah absolutely. I have done that with my panos too and I just bought a small trimming board last year so I am set to do them at home. I just like the convenience of picking and going!

I spy with my iPad's eye, a pseudoscorpion! Posted Image Spider Tick by Kadath, on Flickr Thought it was a tick at first, I shoulda broken out the real macro lens for a better pic, but I thought it was harmful and flushed it! Sadly, it's a helpful insect, eats mites. Just looks scary!

Nice shots, Sam! I really need to invest in a macro lens some day.

Not quite Macro level, but damn impressed at the detail the aging iPhone 5 got with this shot of a Fly on the Wall.

I haven't been doing much macro, but I did take out the Micro Nikkor 70-180 last month.

That's wonderful, John.  You nailed the depth of field, and I love the colors of the flower.

Your and Sam's posts in this thread is eventually going to get me to invest in a macro lens (or at least a set of extension tubes). Living in the suburbs, I struggle to find interesting things to shoot around home sometimes, but macro would certainly open up a wealth of new opportunities.

Sam, you know I named the lens specifically for your benefit.  There are a few on eBay for around $1.5K.  The last time I saw any at KEH they were in the $2K range.  :P

That shot was at 180mm, so with the D7100 an effective focal length of 270mm, which is very nice for allowing me to photograph the bee without disturbing it in the least.

Scott, the current Tamron macros are very nice.  I have a 60mm f/2 and it is stellar, but it's only for crop sensors.  I think the 90mm f/2.8 is as good, but double the price, which is getting kind of steep for a lens that will only get occasional use.

and...Thanks.

Macro tends to take too much patience for me, so it's not something I do frequently.  That shot was hand held at 1/130 sec, so there was a lot of luck involved to have a stable shot when the bee was also in a good position.  I had the camera on servo focus, so there was some luck with that as well.

Thanks, John. I've been tempted by that Tamron 90mm macro you mentioned, along with one of the two Canon 100mm macros. I've just been reluctant to spend the money for something, as you mentioned, that may not get much use. Also, my tripod is not really designed for macro work, so I'd either need a different one (not happening), live with its limitations for this type of work, or need to resort to hand holding.

One of these days, though, I hope to get lucky and find a good deal on a used or refurbished copy of one of the above lenses.

Internal focus is a wonderful feature on a macro.   Both the current Tamrons have it.  The truth is, I almost never shoot macro on a tripod.

Early in the year January 2014, Bumblebee flew into my home though the bedroom window and landed on the floor and when I got home Sooty, the cat was meowing at it. Bumblebee was okay and I popped it out the window where it flew off and transformed. :P

Some strange Super Macro close ups of glass with fizzy lemonade.

The light and shadow of angles with each most bubbles reflecting everything within the room.

Not a good Super Macro Close Up as the leaf was blowing around in the wind and I didn't want to get too close and disturb the spider.
