Glad to see there's a 2D only release, since I have no interest in upconverted 3D. I don't mind the digital copy only being on the 3D copy, especially since the Ultraviolet process has greatly diminished the value of digital copies, but I hope all of the extras on the 3D release are also on the 2D release. This is one that demands the full treatment.

Amazon is also running a $5 off clip-n-save coupon promotion on the four disc combo pack (3D) version right now. The link is directly below the image of the cover on the product page under "Special Offers and Product Promotions".

Looking forward to getting The Avengers on Blu-ray Disc September 25th. I saw it at the theater and I'm looking forward to seeing it all over again on Blu-Ray Disc in my home theater with the good picture and 7.1 DTS HD Surround Sound.

No press release yet, so this is purely speculative: I guess the 30 minutes of deletes scenes will be just that... deleted scenes. Not integrated back into the film. As much as I enjoyed The Avengers, I felt like Captain America got a little slighted. I expected the movie would pivot around him more as the audience's "way in" to the overall story and other fantastical elements, due to his being from another era.
