Hi All,
I am now looking for a new receiver because my 11 year old Onkyo TXDS-898 went down. It was a good receiver but it ran pretty hot. I did some research and went to listen to a few of the receivers namely Marantz, Pioneer Elite, Denon and Yamaha. I am looking to spend in the 900-1000K range. I would also like to have a user friendly interface with Airplay, Sirus Satellite Radio, and networking. I currently used my old receiver for 75/25 in favor of home theater over music but the music listening is bound to increase. I currently have Aperion Audio bookshelves in 5.1 but I will upgrade these speakers (especially my sub) when I move into a newer place. The receivers I am interested in are the :
1) Marantz 6006
2) Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A1010BL
3) Pioneer Elite VSX-53
4) Denon AVR 3312
What are your opinions on these receivers? Do you have any other recommendations? I appreciate your advice! Thanks!
Joe

You probably would be fine with any of them. I am personally partial to Denon. They have a direct or pure mode for when you want to focus on audio and while I don't know how it does with airplay, I think Denon was one of the first companies to do it and they are easy to upgrade over the Internet.

I have a new Yamaha 671 that I like. It also has the "pure" mode that Adam mentioned. I don't use airplay, but I can say that it is very network friendly, working better than other devices I put in the same situation, namely serving music files from my NAS. I would categorize it's UI as very friendly. I don't have a lot of recent examples to compare that too, just a Marantz 1602, which was just okay; but reviews I read prior to purchase also lumped it in the friendly category.

Cool thanks for your replies. I am leaning towards the Pioneer Elite, saw it on Amazon for $730.00 but a lot of people say buyer beware because its not a licensed pioneer dealer. Is it a safe bet to buy it at a discount? Guess I just want to make sure.
I have seen a lot of people mention acessories 4 less on here. I took a look at it and it seemed that they had mostly factory refurbished/reconditioned receivers. If I do find a deal on here is it worth it? If anyone purchased from this place please let me know your opinions.
Thanks again!

Buying from an un-licensed dealer may void the warranty.
I have two Pioneer Elite receivers but bought them both used off ebay/Audiogon. A 23txh ($285) and an SC-27 ($600). These retailed for $1000 and $2200 each. I know it's a big risk buying things used but I think Elites are a bit over-priced new. If you really want a Pioneer look at the new 1122 (just came out a couple of weeks ago but is already hard to find). It retails for only $599 new. Or last years 1121 for $499 http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-VSX-1121-K-Theater-Receiver-Glossy/dp/B004M8RPBS/ref=sr_1_3?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1333500241&sr=1-3 A much better value than an Elite 53 without a warranty. Besides, the Elite line really doesn't offer much more than the regular Pioneer line until you get to the SC series. And that's mainly in the amp section.
Getting a great deal on last years models or a factory refurbished model (with a factory warranty) is a good way to save some money. From ac4l.com you could get these for well nder $1000.
Denon 991 for $549 ($999) http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR991/DENON-AVR-991-7.2ch-Networking-A/V-Theater-Surround-Receiver/1.html

Figure out what features you really need and don't buy more receiver than you will actually use. The money saved can be put to better use in the speakers and subwoofer.

I had an Integra 8.9 for a while (near the same as the Onkyo 876) it was pretty mean. But it put out a tremendous amount of heat. So much so that even in sStandby Mode It got so warm that I felt the need to turn off the power at the surge protector. But it was a helluva receiver.

Thanks guys...the integra is pretty interesting, just can't find a dealer by me. The best buy here does not have it.
I also just saw one call has the Marantz 6006 on sale for 898 dollars free shipping! I might jump on this one.
