Starz left but Netflix still has a larger selection than all of the other providers combined. What that means is, if you aren't happy with Netflix, you probably aren't going to find too many other services to be a huge improvement. If you haven't looked recently, all of the major providers are pushing TV now. The other thing is, if you are looking for NEW movies, you are pretty much going to either have to have multiple services and pay for new releases. At about $5-6 for a HD new release on most of the services I've seen, you could nearly pay for Netflix for a month. Netflix has a huge library, but not all of it is current, so that's the tradeoff.

I absolutely LOVE Netflix. If you like the Starz movies, you must like BAD image quality. And to say that Starz supplied "pretty much all of the good movies Netflix had to offer" is ridiculous. You won't find anything even close to the price of Netflix either.
I am very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the HD movie streaming quality since upgrading my Blu-ray player. I now have the new Panasonic 220 which streams in 1080p, and the HD streamed movies look great.

I am thinking about getting Netflix as soon as I get my Denon DBP-1611UD this Friday. So is the HD content 1080p and is the audio 5.1 Dolby Digital?

Virtually all the HD Netflix streams are available in 1080p, but your player must have the capability to stream in 1080p. Not all the audio is 5.1 Dolby Digital. I don't know what the % is. I like TVandMoviesNow.com to check on Netflix content. It shows which are available in HD, in 5.1, and which have subtitles also.

I have to read through the Denon owners manual but I am thinking that my Denon DBP-1611 UD should stream 1080 Netflix. I just have to get a nice long ethernet cable and a switch to sit at the a/v rack for the Denon Bluray and Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver.

I have to recommend vudu.com as the best streaming service for HD video. They have hundreds of New Releases, and 10's of thousands of Blockbusters available for purchase or rent. Netflix's selection is so poor that I cancelled my account. I have already watched everything I want to watch. The quality of vudu's HD video is stunning, very close to the quality of a Blu-Ray. They have hundreds of titles, especially Disney titles, to rent for 2.00 for 2 nights. They have one title every day for 99 cents. Vudu titles you buy are available to watch on any vudu, or UV enabled device, which number in the hundreds.

I’ve only been streaming Netflix for a few months – for $8 it’s neat to have handy, but I could see how the novelty might wear off. Seems like every time I go to look for a movie; even older movies – it’s only available on DVD. For the money though I suppose it’s ok for now. I still find something that makes it worthwhile and enjoy the oddball movie or show that I wouldn’t have otherwise watched without it. It keeps me off of BiTtorrent and I don’t really need the extra hassle of giving the law a reason to be breathing down my neck.
I just pulled the trigger on a new laptop with WiDi 2.0 and got the brand new Netgear NTV200S – took back my original PTV2000 after seeing this come out. It’s got Vudu and more and is far more functional than my other streaming player, but that’s another thread.
Vudu quality is amazing from what I saw with the 2 minute intro of Rum Diary last night – that red plane flying over the islands was pretty stunning. Wow! I was about to spend my credit toward purchasing it when I noticed that Netflix amazingly had it too! The quality on Netfix was noticeably less, but FREE! LOL not exactly, but finally a movie that I was really wanting to see badly.
I just don’t get the $22 or $23 purchase for the high quality though – totally lost on me. You can buy the collector edition Blu-ray for that much of most titles. I noticed that Hugo was in the .99 cent offering last night for rent – now that would have been a treat! I wasn’t in the mood unfortunately. I’ll certainly keep an eye on that though.
I tested a few of the web based services several weeks ago while at the lake on my laptop only and was a little upset that the Google Play showed me a trailer in 1080p and I rented through them and got 720p I think? Maybe not even that. I remember I thought I would go with Itunes next time probably.
Just my 2 cents.

I really like vudu a lot. I have 110 plus titles, most from disc to digital, makes it really cheap. If you purchase the 99 cent movie of the day you have 30 days to watch it so I rarely pass those up. The Quality is amazing too, I just stopped buying DVDs to save space.

Well I don't know what to say here. Recently tried to give Vudu a shot, but keep running into one problem or another, maybe it's only open to Americans or something. I'll do more investigation on it.
In the meantime, my main choices have been Netflix & iTunes store.
One thing I just don't get about iTunes is how over-priced it seems rentals are. For a silly HD rental, you could actually pay for one full month of UNLIMITED streaming from Netflix. Makes me wonder how iTunes stays in business, except for there seems to be a lot of suckers out there. I can understand that Netflix is a little bit limited but.... if you consider all the nostalgic stuff on netflix, like the whole A-Team series, etc. that is going to take me over a year before I get enough time to go through that. And I haven't even begun to try and get through the Astroboy series, etc. lol.
I guess I'll bump up my goal for next week to get Vudu up and running. I don't mind giving new gimmicks a shot, but often I'm not too impressed.

I just started Netflix streaming, my girlfriend signed up for the free month and this is my first extended experience with it and I must say it is much better than I thought based on briefly seeing small samples at friend's or family homes. We probably won't continue beyond the month however, Amazon Prime with added value that comes with free shipping and shipping upgrades is a far better value in my opinion. We also rent about a half dozen Vudu 99 cent movies each month, and love that service. I did rent Hugo but haven't watched it yet. Vudu quality certainly leaves Netflix and Amazon in the dust but those services look good enough that if I didn't know about Vudu, I would be happy with the quality. Public domain movies and movies available on Hulu are watched at times as well. YouTube provides most of the public domain movies along with Internet Archive and a couple of other sites.

I spent my sign up credit for Vudu this weekend on Wrath of the Titans (which originally showed only Dolby Stereo, but was in 5.1 when I rented it – Yay!). I’m not the best judge on this – never rent Bluray discs, but I’ve played a few. Only have a 40” 1080p 60hz Samsung for viewing – not a really ‘big’ screen. I’m super impressed with the quality for streaming video though. Wow! Certainly not cheap, but I’m not a movie renter. I have a Netflix account and that’s my frame of reference.
