AT&T came to the LTE game later then Verizon so their rollout is behind them. You will still get HSPA+ which is faster then Verizon 3G. I'm a happy AT&T customer and my AT&T iPhone 4s is hella faster then my work Verizon iPhone 4s. So call me nuts I don't care. :)

*shrug* my corporate discount with ATT works out in my favor.  More then that, near me at least, AT&T's coverage is far better then Verizon.. I carry a Verizon MiFi as well, and it's wonky.   What I've discovered is that no service, AT&T or Verizon, is truly universal; there are some areas either/or covers.   Be your own guide.

VERY happy with AT&T

Even if I don't get 4G for the next two years, the speed

of their 3G blows Verizon's 3G out of the water.  That's why I
got rid of my Verizon PC air card --  the data being tethered

off my AT&T iPhone was so much faster.

Plus, from what I read, if you are not in an area that has 4G,

at least AT&T falls back on a faster network compared to
Verizon that falls back on an Edge network (or at least that

is what I read).

Perhaps I'll sound nuts, but for what I do -- which is basic

web editing and forum maintenance, I am very happy with

my AT&T 3G connection which is super fast.

...and besides, AT&T must be doing something right...

their iPads have outsold the Verizon iPads thus far.

Sam, there will be nothing to talk about.

Once again, you are waving the gloom and doom
flag.

You are speaking to an audience of members who

are from different areas across this country.

For some, Verizon will be the better choice. Others,

AT&T.  All of us are going to make our decisions based

on how well our current phones are connecting on the

network we are now with.

I have no doubt that AT&T is going to keep performing

as well as it has for me.  I also have no doubt that if

I had gone with Verizon and I was not in a 4G access

area, I would have been kicked down to a slow edge
network.  I don't want that.  I am completely happy with

AT&T's 3G speeds.

I can tell you this:

We have offices in a lot of areas in the country.  For our office in Georgia, it's all AT&T.. Verizon is almost worthless there; in an Illinois plant, AT&T doesn't work worth anything, so they went almost all Verizon.  Near the Mexico border, Verizon.  Meanwhile, Kansas is AT&T and so on..

I think that's the thing; you can't assume any carrier is valid everywhere.   Test the market you'll be in most and be happy.

I'm another happy AT&T user. In the Bay Area, at least where I hang it is far better then the other carriers so I'll stick with them and might even get the AT&T iPad.

The lesson here as far as I'm concerned is "the more choices the better". I'm damn glad AT&T didn't get its mitts on Tmobile, because it would have reduced my choices.

My view: AT&T's service sucks.  Verizon's billing service sucks more.  A pox on both their houses.
I will likely stick with AT&T and their "unlimited" iPad plan.  That said, if you are new, and live in an Verizon LTE area I will seriously consider them -- they offer the new iPad hotspot feature at no extra charge, AT&T doesn't offer it at all.

Hold on tightly, let go lightly.

AT&T was solid 3G in Rochester.

Here around Fairfax VA it's generally fine. But then tonight, out to eat in a busy restaurant, and I've got 5 bars, 3G,...and absolutely no data. I've seen it before in the Mall parking lot or Friday night dining. I don't know what to make of it. And I have no idea if Verizon is any better.

Looks like AT&T is getting ready to roll out a shared data plan.

I like the idea of a shared plan for our two iPhones. If it could include an iPad, that could sway my purchase decision. But it all depends on the pricing details.

Since we're discussing AT&T, what about their recent announcement that they are eliminating the unlimited data plan for iPhones, even for those that already have the plan? Are they sticking with that? Seems I heard they were having second thoughts.

I don't think either Verizon or AT&T have what one

would legitimately call an "unlimited plan."  Both services

will ultimately prevent you from eating all the data you want.

In the case of AT&T....

They began throttling unlimited users who went over
2GB of data a month.  Exceed that amount and you were

thrown to "Edge" speeds.

There was an uproar among AT&T customers.  Last week,

the company changed their tune....somewhat.  Now they

allow 3GB of data per month on their unlimited plan before

they throttle you.  This change was because a user won

a lawsuit against AT&T for their practices.

Basically, what these companies are saying to unlimited

users is that, yes you have unlimited data available to you,

but we don't have to serve it to you at optimal speed.

I guess I'll have to have both an AT&T and Verizon iPhone for when I travel accross the country for the rest of my life.
