Hi there! I'll also be jumping in now and again to welcome new members, I'm Sam Posten, an unabashed Home Theater Nutter! I am into Apple computers and portable devices, Nikon DSLRs, Sony NEX mirrorless cams, and am building two 5.1 systems in my new home, a modest LCD setup in my family room and a Front Projector rig in my Basement, probably going with the new Panasonic 4000. I'm -opposed- to DRM in almost all formats, but I particularly think Ultraviolet is a bad idea. I'm also a consummate bargain hunter and I like to think I'm not so much after a luxury experience in most things but in maximizing the bang for the buck in anything I do. Happy to help answer anything I can.

Sam has set a new standard for introductions in this thread :) so I'll tell everyone a little bit about my background, too. I started at HTF the week it opened in July of 1997, but I was into Home Theater years before that, when I hooked up a pair of amplified speakers to my VHS HiFi VCR. I graduated to a laserdisc player and Dolby Pro Logic Surround, then I got a 40-inch 4x3 RPTV, which made widescreen movies quite tolerable. A few years after that, I got a 40-inch 16x9 RPTV, the last great analog set from Toshiba. This was great for DVD's. Then I built a house with an upstairs dedicated home theater room. The Toshiba was a little tiny for that room, so I upgraded to a Mitsubishi 65-inch HD-ready RPTV. Then I replaced the sound system with a Denon 5803 THX Ultra 2 A/V processor and 7.2 speakers. That lasted years until the TV died in 2011. So I got a Mitsubishi 73-inch 3D DLP HDTV. I am really loving 3D at home! I also have a smaller Mits HDTV downstairs in the living room and a lesser sound system. I'm heavily into Blu-ray and movies, and also am an Apple fanatic from the 80's. So to all the new members here, welcome to HTF! Please introduce yourselves so we can get to know you!

As for me, I'm finally approaching my 10 year anniversary on the forum. I was a long-time lurker before I started joining in the conversations. In the years since, I've picked up a ton of helpful tips and have tried to "pay it forward" by being helpful to newcomers and offering as objective a view as possible.

Like Sam, (and many HTF members) I pride myself on finding good value in home theater products. I dabbled in making my own A/V cables for a while (before HDMI came along and made that concept obsolete), and my basement theater was an exercise in DIY experimentation - including IR remote extenders, remote control dimmers for lights, lots of in-wall wiring, and probably a few other things I've mentally blocked out.

The people that frequent the forum are a big part of what makes this such a great resource. We're always happy to help, and I think it's safe to say, that all of us "have been there before" so don't think there's anything too minor to ask us about.

Cheers!

Steve is being modest, what he -isn't- telling you is he ran the world's foremost authority website on DVD back in the early days. =)
Aw, shucks. And it's still out there in Cyberspace: http://web.archive.org/web/20000301055122/http://www.dvdresource.com/ .

Hi everyone. I'm new to this part of HTF as I can usually be found following the 3D and films-we'd-like-to-see-on-Blu ray threads. Just a few months ago I completed a year-long project which consisted of building a cinema in the loft of my home. Shortly after I began working on it, I started to make a few notes as I went along, thinking that I might put together an article for the website I run: www.widescreenmovies.org
With the cinema now up and running, I finally put the article together - with the help of a pal who knows about websites and other PC stuff which is beyond me - and here's a link to it:
http://widescreenmovies.org/cinema.htm
Hope some of you may find it of interest - even useful!
