Interesting but nothing really new:

I've worked in an electronics factory. It's not fun but it pays the bills, even if like me, you weren't on the front line. I have much respect for the folks who do it, and honestly the Foxconn one looks very similar on the surface to what I dealt with, tho of course ours were much better paid, went to their own nice homes at night, and you had the freedom to walk out any time you wanted, even if it was just to take a break.
Other than eliminating factories altogether, and I don't doubt that that is coming and our world is in no way prepared for it, I don't know what else to think.
Better pay
Less dehumanization
More freedom
Better safety conditions
Yes, bring all of those on. But you will still be left with the ultimate end state: factories are factories.

By chance I caught the first ten minutes of the new This American Life on the radio today. I'm looking forward to the podcast showing up in my queue.

I'm impressed by TAL's quick and clear retraction on the issue. They are at heart a story-telling show. But the show clearly means to present facts in many of their stories; increasingly so I think. Their episodes with Planet Money on the financial crisis were the best general-audience reporting on the issue, IMO. I'm glad that they working to protect and repair their reputation.

Good start. These things take time, but I haven't heard of more suicides lately so that's a good sign, eh?
