I admit that this being released in SD-DVD is a little puzzling - as far as I know, the 8 individual volumes were all remastered in HD, making a Blu release the next logical jump.

If a comprehensive soup to nuts BD collection of 3 Stooges shorts (& solos) were offered, I'd be all over that.  However I have no interest in this set since I already purchased the 8 volumes.

It's probably economical. Sony hasn't exactly been active in putting deep catalog titles on blu-ray. Blu-ray releases of the Stooges could make some sense if they were released again as volumes, but this set would be around $300 if they were all blu-ray discs and they probably figure they wouldn't make as much profit off of a blu-ray release. I think Bond gets away with it by being Bond -- the #1 most successful property MGM owns

fine, then make it 9 sets, in blu, msrp 39-49 a set discounted to what maybe 30 the week of release, 30 x 9  comes to 270 low end,  i could work with that, and then maybe  the features would be released seperately,

It seems to me it's possible that Sony listened to us here, and on other DVD websites, as for years we practically begged them to release all the Stooges shorts in chronological order. Therefore, I hope they're now listening to us here, and on other DVD websites, as we now strongly suggest -- can I say demand? -- that they do the right thing, and release the extra three discs separately for those of us who loyally supported them over the years.

There's no way that they are going to put these out in separate Blu sets. The reason that we got all of the shorts is that the Stooges have a wide appeal and DVD is the way to tap that best, especially since most of the Stooges fans are older types who may not have gone Blu. The one way that we will see a Blu set is if a complete set could be put out with minimal additional cost. Does anyone know what the cost would be to put existing high def restored masters on BDs? I know something of the market but nothing of the underlying costs. Twilight Time, if you are listening, this could be a big seller (I bet you could sell 3000 copies for a set priced at $300 or less).

I'm sure BluRays are coming somewhere down the line - maybe just not now. They'll continue to find ways to squeeze money out of the catalog.

I'm surprised a formal announcement about this set hasn't come yet... thought maybe we'd see one today.

Amazon has a pre-order for 91, but now they list the list price as 95.99. Was 159.99.

Sony's own calendar still says 3/27.

Hopefully they're being overburdened by Pissed-Off consumers and are pushing the date back in order to find a satisfactory solution for everybody!! I can always hope!!:D

With the FOX movie coming out in April, the 3/27 date makes a lot more sense than June. Other retailers like BN and WalMart still say 3/27, as does Sony's calendar. Amazon seems to be on their own with the June date and a 95.99 list price (elsewhere: 159 list price) One could hope that Mike Schlesinger (who used to frequent this forum?) would have some information.

Posted Image From Amazon.com With the bonus DVD's being in their own packaging I wonder if they'll be released separately too. Sorry if images aren't allowed on this site. Please remove if they're not.

Frankly, that looks pretty promising. It would be nothing to print up extra sets of the bonus materials and sell them as a separate item. If nothing else, when these boxes finally get remaindered, some retailers out there will bust them up and sell the sets individually.

The extras box says "11 hours of movies and shorts, including never before release material" I wonder what it might be. I don't know if they would include "Captain Hates The Sea" (Which the current existing print has two scenes with them) or "Start Cheering" which they appear in about 5 minutes worth of scenes as well. However, The are major costars in "Time Out for Rhythm" (Fun Film) and of course "Rockin' in the Rockies". As for shorts, who knows if all the solo shorts will be there - At 17 minutes per two-reeler,.Shemp's Columbia work is at least 6 hours! Regardless, I have a feeling that some fans will be disappointed in the content.

I am definitely in for that extra box to complete my eight-volume collection. I will just wait for that box to be sold separately. Whatever is included in the "Rare Treasures" will IMO make for a wonderful weekend of viewing! I can't wait for it, actually. :)

I still need to pick up the final Vol. Now, just throwing out my intentions: I'll buy that extra thing there in the pic above if that extra thing in the pic is available separately but will not buy that whole set above if it ain't. (annoyed jerk mode on) I think that's pretty flippin CLEAR (annoyed jerk mode off) LOVE the Stooges. And have truly enjoyed the love and care Sony has given it so far to us fans. But several things are left to do and this big set don't do it for those of us who have been collecting these from the beginning.
