BuySoundtrax Records has announced the November 16th release of the CHILLERAMA: Zom-B-Movie – Original Soundtrack featuring music by Bear McCreary (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE WALKING DEAD, KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM) along with the new track “I Don’t Want To Die A Virgin” by Young Beautiful in a Hurry. In addition to McCreary’s score for Zom-B-Movie, the soundtrack features the score to the newly rediscovered classic DEATHICATION from director Fernando Phagbeefy.
In the spirit of classic anthology films like CREEPSHOW and TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE and containing films that celebrate the golden age of anatrichilia, CHILLERAMA spans over four decades of cinematic excellence, offering viewers a glimpse into the joy of the late-night feature. The Zom-B-Movie segment was directed by Joe Lynch (WRONG TURN 2, KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM) and stars Richard Riehle (OFFICE SPACE) and Brendan McCreary (the band Young Beautiful in a Hurry).
Zom-B-Movie presented Bear with the opportunity to expand his musical horizon into the sounds he grew up with. “Joe’s short film required a wide swath of musical styles,” he described. Some of his inspirations for this opus included Bernard Herrmann, Lalo Schifrin, and Jerry Goldsmith.
Also part of the CHILLERAMA pantheon is the newly rediscovered nearly 40-year old classic DEATHICATION, from director Fernando Phagbeefy. The influence of the great Kurosawa is evident in DEATHICATION, with Phagabeefy's use of epic images and creation of heroic characters with a strong sense of honor and duty.
Said Phagabeefy, “I wanted to harness those pungent emotions onto celluloid, and with the help of talented (f)artists like our composer [and McCreary’s long lost uncle] Sir Lion Magillicutty, in my opinion we created a true film for the ages, a fine wheel of fragrant filmic cheese to sniff and savor like a fresh lawn log.”
Because of the familial connection, Magillicutty’s music for DEATHICATION is also featured on this recording. “With this newly re-mASStered version of the score Lion produced available to the general pubic, I hope the film turtle-heads its way back into poopularity,” said Phagabeefy.
CHILLERAMA: Zom-B-Movie also gave Bear the opportunity to expand into two new areas: acting and directing. Bear directed a special music video for the film's closing credits, for the single "I Don't Want to Die a Virgin" by Young Beautiful in a Hurry.
Bear also makes a cameo as a deranged painter who uses an unorthodox medium for his work. To prepare for his role, McCreary took method acting classes and watched hours of Bob Ross on PBS. Said McCreary, "Well let's just say it wasn't the first time I flung shit on paper in order to see what stuck."
CHILLERAMA: Zom-B-Movie-Original Soundtrack will be available in stores, and directly from BuySoundtrax and digitally from the usual outlets on November 23rd , 2011. CHILLERAMA will be available on DVD or Blu-Ray on November 29, 2011.
CHILLERAMA: Zom-B-Movie is a limited edition of 1000 units and is now available for pre-order at www.buysoundtrax.com for $15.95 and is expected to start shipping on November 23rd , 2011.
The first 100 people to order the recording at www.buysoundtrax.com will receive a copy autographed by Bear McCreary, Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry) and Zom-B-Movie director Joe Lynch

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original soundtrack to AVALANCHE, featuring music composed and conducted by William Kraft (FIRE AND ICE, THE CHISHOLMS) for the 1978 disaster film written and directed by Corey Allen, produced by Roger Corman, starring Rock Hudson, Mia Farrow, Robert Forster, Rick Moses, Barry Primus and Cathy Paine.

AVALANCHE tells the story of a group of vacationers at an exciting new ski resort in the mountains of Colorado who are forced to face the brunt of Mother Nature’s wrath in the form of a powerful avalanche of snow. The film follows the efforts of the survivors to pull together despite their differences and stay alive long enough for rescue services to arrive.

Released towards the end of a successful cycle of disaster films that included THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and THE TOWERING INFERNO, producer Roger Corman was looking for a composer who could provide a large scale orchestral score for his film and he turned to composer William Kraft who, at the time, was building a successful reputation for himself as a composer and conductor, as well as a master percussionist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. For AVALANCHE, Kraft chose to center his score around the central conflicts of the film: Man’s destruction of his environment in his attempt to manipulate Nature instead of being one with it and the human relationships in the film. Performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the composer deftly uses all the colors of the orchestra to highlight the dramatic elements of the story.

William Kraft (b. 1923, Chicago) has had a long and active career as composer, conductor, timpanist/percussionist and teacher. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he served for 11 years (1991 - 2002) as Chairman of the Composition Department and Corwin Professor of Music Composition. From 1981 -85, Mr. Kraft was the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Composer-in-Residence. During his residency, he was appointed by executive director Ernest Fleischmann to serve as the founding director of the orchestra's performing arm for contemporary music, the Philharmonic New Music Group. Mr. Kraft had previously been a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 26 years; eight years as percussionist, and eighteen years as Principal Timpanist. For three seasons, he was also assistant conductor of the orchestra, and thereafter, frequent guest conductor.
Mr. Kraft has received numerous awards and commissions, including two Kennedy Center Friedheim Awards (first prize in 1990 for Veils and Variations for Horn and Orchestra, and second prize in 1984 for Concerto for Timpani and Orchestra; two Guggenheim Fellowships; two Ford Foundation commissions; fellowships from the Huntington Hartford Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts; the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Music Award; the Norlin/MacDowell Fellowship; the Club 100 Distinguished Artist of Los Angeles Award, the ASCAP Award; the NACUSA Award; the Eva Judd O'Meara Award; first place in the Contemporary Record Society competition; commissions from the Library of Congress, U.S. Air Force Band, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Kronos Quartet, Voices of Change, the Schoenberg Institute, consortium of Speculum Mucicae/San Francisco Contemporary Music Players' Contemporary Music Forum, The Boston Pops Orchestra, consortium of Pacific Symphony/Spokane Symphony/Tucson Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. His works have been performed by the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago and Philadelphia Orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and other major American orchestras as well as in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, Australia and Israel. Recently completed recording projects are with the Czech Philharmonic, New England Conservatory and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original motion picture soundtrack to AVALANCHE on compact disc for the first time, featuring music composed and conducted by William Kraft, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of London. AVALANCHE contains the original 1978 album program assembled by the composer and also includes a selection of outtakes as bonus tracks, from elements in the composer’s archive, professionally mastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland.

Sword_Sorcerer_Cover.jpg

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original soundtrack to THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, featuring music composed and conducted by David Whitaker (VAMPIRE CIRCUS, DR. JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE) for the 1982 fantasy film directed by Albert Pyun (CYBORG, DOLLMAN, KNIGHTS) and starring Lee Horsley (MATT HOUSTON), Kathleen Beller, Simon MacCorkindale (MANIMAL), Richard Lynch (INVASION U.S.A), Richard Moll (NIGHT COURT), George Maharis (THE SATAN BUG) and Reb Brown (YOR, UNCOMMON VALOR).
THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER tells the story of Talon, a young prince whose parents, the king and queen of Edhan are killed at the start of the film by evil warlord Titus Cromwell (Lynch), whose victory in battle has been assured by a pact he made with a dark sorcerer named Xusia (Moll). After his triumph, Cromwell quickly destroys the sorcerer to ensure his uninterrupted reign over the kingdom, unaware that Talon, the prince of Edhan has escaped. Armed with his father’s tri-bladed sword, Talon grows into a mighty warrior, gleefully played by Lee Horsley. When he is conned into aiding the beautiful Princess Alana (Beller) rescue her brother, Prince Mikah (MacCorkindale), who has been imprisoned by Cromwell, Talon rediscovers his royal heritage. Meanwhile, Xusia, believed to be dead, returns to wreak his own vengeance on Cromwell for his betrayal, which puts Talon and his army of mercenaries right in the middle, pitted between sword and sorcerer. Released in 1982, a month before CONAN THE BARBARIAN, the film was quickly eclipsed by the box office might of CONAN but it has maintained respect as a cult classic and considered one of its director’s best films.
To compose the score for his ambitious first film, director Albert Pyun brought on board David Whitaker, a British composer well versed in scoring films of dark fantasy, having worked both for Hammer Films, on VAMPIRE CIRCUS and DOCTOR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE and Amicus Films, on SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN. David Whitaker’s score for THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER is a full-blooded late 19th Century-styled orchestral score, built around a handful of primary themes and the composer’s own eloquent orchestrations.
Born in Surrey in 1931, David Sinclair Whitaker received his formal music education at Guildhall, studying piano, composition and conducting. In 1962, after having spent some time in the service, he began marketing his tunes around London’s Denmark Street and found some success when he met producer Andrew Oldham, who was producing the Rolling Stones at the time. Whitaker was engaged to do arrangements for some of Oldham’s pop acts of the day. Whitaker also began recording albums of his arrangements. One of these albums caught the attention of the Beatles’ film producer, Walter Shenson, who hired Whitaker to score the 1968 Jerry Lewis comedy DON’T RAISE THE BRIDGE, LOWER THE RIVER. Established by his association with Shenson, Whitaker scored a number of films in quick succession for producer Irwin Allen, including the spy thriller HAMMERHEAD and the Western THE DESPERADOS. Whitaker then scored SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN for Amicus Films, which brought him to the attention of Hammer Films, where he would produce two of his more memorable scores for VAMPIRE CIRCUS and DOCTOR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE. Later in his career, he collaborated with rock star Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin on the score to DEATH WISH II. Following THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, Whitaker slowly moved away from the business, returning in the 2000s to score three dramas. Whitaker died in England on January 11, 2012, shortly after his 81st birthday. He is best known for his dynamic work for Hammer films and this mighty adventure score for THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER.
Released on compact disc in 1999 as a limited edition release, BUYSOUNDTRAX Records now presents the world premiere soundtrack release of THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER in time to celebrate the film’s 30th Anniversary, featuring music composed and conducted by David Whitaker, performed by the Graunke Symphony Orchestra, newly remastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland. The booklet contains liner notes written by noted author Randall D. Larson and also includes comments from the composer.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records is proud to present a new recording of the score for the 1985 fantasy film, LEGEND, featuring music composed by electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream (SORCERER, THIEF, RISKY BUSINESS) for the fantasy film directed by Ridley Scott (ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, THE DUELLISTS), written by William Hjortsberg and starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara and Tim Curry. Tangerine Dream’s electronic music for the film is presented here in a new recording produced and arranged by composer Brandon K. Verrett.
LEGEND is a visually stunning fantasy/adventure that takes place in a mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins, unicorns and mortals, where an epic battle of Good versus Evil begins to unfold. Tom Cruise plays Jack, a peasant boy in love, perhaps tragically, with the beautiful princess Lili (Mia Sara). Jack and Lili become pawns in a much larger game as the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) exploits their relationship to reveal the location of the remaining members of the purest race in the world, the last pair of Unicorns. He dispatches his goblins to kill the Unicorns and claim their horns, so that he may claim their mystical power and bring about an everlasting age of Darkness. Jack finds himself forced to undertake a quest, to save Lili, try to prevent the death of the last Unicorn and defeat the plans of the Lord Of Darkness, or the sun will rise no more.
The music for LEGEND was a subject of great controversy in 1985. Initially, Ridley Scott had turned to composer Jerry Goldsmith to score the film, which would reunite them after their great success on ALIEN in 1979. Goldsmith responded by writing an enchanting, organic symphonic score emphasizing strings, woodwinds and choir, a score that the composer, the director of the film and many others felt was among Goldsmith’s best work. After a disappointing test screening, studio executives encouraged Ridley Scott to replace the music with something that would be more commercially appealing to the film’s expected youth market. Tangerine Dream had realized great success with their score to RISKY BUSINESS in 1983, another film aimed at the youth market and so they were hired to compose a brand new score for the film.
Tangerine Dream ultimately composed 80 minutes of music for LEGEND, using 35 different synthesizers, yielding a score that many feel is the group’s finest musical endeavor for film. Despite inevitable comparison between the two scores, the music that Tangerine Dream composed for the film was extremely effective and remains their most lyrical and complex work for films, from the delicate melody for Nell’s Cottage, the hauntingly fragile melody for the Unicorns, the crackling percussive motif for the Goblins and and the pervasive dark synthetic pulses associated with Darkness.
In the spirit of BSX’s fondness for reinterpreting significant film scores new musical presentations, composer/arranger Brandon K. Verrett has created a new performance of Tangerine Dream’s music for LEGEND, keeping an eye toward respect for their original performances and ear toward the sounds of today’s technology. With this new performance of the LEGEND score, album producer Ford A. Thaxton wanted to bring out the many beautiful elements that existed within Tangerine Dream’s music but could not be realized with the gear used in 1985, taking into account how much technology has changed in 27 years since the music was first recorded and giving it a fresh face, utilizing the modern digital instruments of 2012.
To prepare for the project, composer Brandon K. Verrett thoroughly studied Tangerine Dream’s complete score. His intention for the new recording was to stay true to the familiar soundtrack performances of the original score but to do so while retaining the freedom to put his own musical stamp on the presentation. According to the composer, “Those who are familiar with the original score will find subtle changes in tempo, musical gestures and timbre. Some of the interpretations may be found to be fairly literal. Other tracks seem to invite more development and exploration and with those tracks, I allowed myself to explore Tangerine Dream’s material and to paraphrase using my own compositional vocabulary.” While the original score was composed largely on synthesizers, this new recording of LEGEND retains the original organic concept of the instrumentation, augmenting it with violin, erhu, piano, guitar, voice, cello and other exotic instruments, carefully molded to bring the music alive. This mindset extended to the songs featured in the film and this new recording of LEGEND also includes new presentations of the classic songs “Loved By The Sun” and “Is Your Love Strong Enough”, featuring the voice of singer Katie Campbell.
Brandon K. Verrett’s formal musical training began at age 11. After having discovered an interest in composing while in middle and high school, Verrett continued his studies at the University of Lousiana-Monroe, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in theory and composition. He also holds a graduate certificate in Scoring For Motion Pictures And Television from the University Of Southern California. Verrett’s scores have been featured in films for theatrical and television releases and have also premiered in both local and international festivals. In addition to composing, Verrett’s arrangements and orchestrations can be found in films such as PRIEST, DRAG ME TO HELL, UNTRACEABLE, THE INFORMERS and many other films.
BUYSOUNDTRAX proudly presents LEGEND – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE, featuring a new exciting recording of music composed by Tangerine Dream, produced and arranged by Brandon K. Verrett, featuring vocal performances by Katie Campbell. LEGEND – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE includes exclusive liner wrotes written by noted author Randall D. Larson, detailing the history of the film’s music and new comments from composer/arranger Brandon K. Verrett related to the development of the project. LEGEND – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE also features striking front cover and rear tray artwork produced by noted artist and illustrator Jerry Bingham (BATMAN: SON OF THE DEMON, BEOWULF) that is exclusive to this release.

AHI Records and Halloweenmovies.com to be distributed by BUYSOUNDTRAX Records, have released a special Limited Edition Expanded release of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS. The soundtrack features music composed & performed by Alan Howarth (THE LOST EMPIRE, HEADLESS) for the 1989 sequel to the popular HALLOWEEN series directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard (OMEN IV: THE AWAKENING), starring Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Beau Starr, Donald L. Shanks as Michael Myers and Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis.
HALLOWEEN 5 takes place approximately one year after the events of HALLOWEEN 4. Jamie Lloyd (Harris) has been remanded to Haddonfield’s Children’s Hospital after attacking her stepmother a year before. She is being treated by Dr. Loomis (Pleasance) and cared for her by her stepsister Rachel (Cornell) and her friend, Tina. The unstoppable Michael has spent the year in a coma, recovering from his wounds and awakens to search for Jamie again. Jamie, who hasn’t spoken since the attack on her stepmother, discovers that she has developed a telepathic link to her demonic uncle and becomes aware that he has awoken. Learning about Jamie’s link to Michael, Dr. Loomis plans to use her talent to his advantage, to finish Michael once and for all.
The score for 5 HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS was performed by Alan Howarth, who had assisted John Carpenter on HALLOWEEN II and HALLOWEEN III and returning again after scoring HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS. With the fifth film, director Dominique Othenin-Girard wanted to return to the musical style of the first film, which included more writing for piano. Using the Synclavier, then considered state-of-the-art technology in 1989, Howarth was able to accommodate the director’s request and also employed the Kurzweil 250 electronic sampler, a pair of Linn drum machines and several new banks of emulators, equipment which had already been used successfully on the score for THEY LIVE.
Alan Howarth, in addition to being a composer, is an accomplished sound designer and editor, having worked on films such as STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, POLTERGEIST, TOTAL RECALL, ARMY OF DARKNESS, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, STARGATE and many others. He has been a frequent music collaborator with John Carpenter on his films beginning with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK in 1980 and including HALLOWEEN II & III, CHRISTINE, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THEY LIVE and PRINCE OF DARKNESS and Alan has scored many films on his own, including THE LOST EMPIRE, RETRIBUTION, HALLOWEEN 4 & 5, THE DENTIST, HEADLESS, BOO! And, most recently, EVILUTION and BASEMENT JACK.

For this new expanded release of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS, the composer returned to the original multi-track masters and transferred them directly into Pro Tools, allowing him to create all new digital mixes. The music has been newly remastered and contains previously unreleased music. Also included is the original album presentation, newly remastered. The booklet includes exclusive in-depth liner notes written by author Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer.
The first 100 orders of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS – LIMTED EDITION made through our website will receive a booklet autographed by composer Alan Howarth.
