David Lynch

Great Directors provides an in-depth look at the creative processes of these master filmmakers, as they discuss their remarkable careers with candor and humor, sharing personal stories about their work and influences. Each director also discusses the role that politics and history play in shaping their films, from their early efforts to their recent triumphs. This documentary gives viewers the chance to experience these one-on-one discussions with today's leading filmmakers.

The directors also comment on their own influences (such as David Lynch paying tribute to Billy Wilder and Alfred Hitchcock; Todd Haynes to Fassbinder; and Breillat to Ingmar Bergman), and share personal stories about their early work (Lynch recounts how Mel Brooks landed him his job directing The Elephant Man, and also describes his creative differences with the studio during the making of Dune).

Great Directors is an illuminating and revealing look at the state of contemporary cinema, and an example for where it might be headed.
