Reminds me of something I've intended to ask:  Is The Longest Day Blu-ray worth acquiring, or was it one of those that got abused in the process?

If I remember right it was only slightly abused.  Somewhere inbetween Sand Pebbles (perfect) and Patton (not-so perfect).  Its such a great film that I took the plunge.  Ken has just posted his review of Unknown (Blu-ray).

If The Longest Day had been marked down a month ago I would've bought it! ;)

I have an old DVD of it, but it looks so horrible I turned it off almost immediately. I know the BD isn't great, but I might get it anyway since even a lame BD would be a huge improvement.

I thought about getting The Longest Day on Blu-ray until I read this:

http://www.hometheat...-day-in-blu-ray

To my eye, the image appears to be highly processed, removing grain, and with it, much of the high frequency information that can be so easily replicated in the wonderful Blu-Ray system. This is what high definition Blu-Ray is all about. Facial tonalities as they are, take on the look similar to wax figures in Madame Tussauds. I'm thinking back here to Paramount's HD release of The Untouchables which was devoid of detail.

I guess I'll just hold on to my "Cinema Classics Collection" DVD for now.

The thing that bugs me about threads like this is that since there are infrequent new posts, it never gets bumped up to the top of the list of my subscribed threads...thusly I rarely think to check for it and could easily miss out on a good deal.

And I hate missing out on good deals...   Posted Image

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself.Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

You should start a thread with all the deals on new releases each week...you know, kind of a round-up of what's coming out...special editions...etc...

Wow, that would be a LOT of work...forget it!

Although not a "perfect" Blu-Ray, the movie is worth the price (now about $10). Another classic that could use some tender loving care!! NED

This is Spinal Tap is a very good blu ray. Seems to have pretty much everything. Although the extra DVD (yeah, DVD) they include is like drinking a pint out of a 50 gal cup.

Kevin:

Posted Image for adding new, updated posts to the thread (rather than just updating the OP).  It's much easier now to know when you are posting something new.
