If she needs something for reading lots of text-only books like typical novels and such, then yeah, I guess it makes sense to get an e-ink reader on top of the iPad.  Otherwise, I'm not too sure why she'd need something more than the iPad -- well, I guess maybe she might also want something smaller for reading on-the-go vs lugging the iPad everywhere.

Not too sure now, but are you able to get all sorts of magazines on the iPad?  If not, I guess that could be something to consider for a color/LCD-based reader -- and of course, the NC and Amazon's rumored Android Kindle will be smaller than the iPad.

Also, at least in the case of the NC, B&N also offers some (so far mainly kids-oriented) animated/multimedia books that would likely need a more powerful, color/LCD-based reader to work well (or at all).  Those are usually the kinds of books that don't work so well and/or at all on the generic Nook reader apps vs the NC's own built-in reader app -- that's one reason why you might want to keep the NC's software intact somewhere (like on a SD card like your friend) even if you want to run a different ROM for most things.  Of course, if your sister doesn't care about those types of books -- perhaps not if she doesn't have kids -- then that's one advantage of the NC that won't benefit your sister.  No idea whether Amazon will have the same kind of offerings.

But at this point, given she already has an iPad, maybe she really should just wait and see what Amazon's offering will actually be before deciding.  Maybe it will make sense to get the Amazon tablet anyway... or maybe B&N will come out w/ an NC 2 real soon to better compete in that market space...

But would it fit in your cargo pants? Also, you guys know it was Jeff Han who innovated all of this stuff right? His system was designed for a drafting table size: http://www.ted.com/t...ouchscreen.html

Be serious.  I would probably need some sort of carrying case.  Like a backpack or something.

Amazon Silk browser, IT RUNS FLASH Interesting, "Silk, as a "split browser," will take out a lot of the delays in loading a website" Think of the gaming service "On-Live", it's kinda like that. Or like X-Windows if you remember how that worked and windowing systems work today..

It could flop if the reviews point out glaring weaknesses, but $200 for a dual core tablet is almost an impulse buy.  If they make the 7" form factor popular, everyone is going to get one for Christmas. I have a Galaxy Tab, and I might still get this for my wife.

At $199, it's the same price as an entry level iPod.

I have a free Kindle, and I'm temped by the $99 Kindle Touch. That's going to be huge for Xmas.
